rider weight limit for a 16.0hh TB?

Hi there
What do you think would be the rider weight limit for a 16hh TB? He does have a reasonable amount of bone. I really dont know anything about TBs! What do you think? Do you think a 16hh TB could take 11 stone or is that too much? (assuming of course his fitness/back/etc was OK)

thanks
Cassandra

He'd likely have raced with more than that if he ever went NH?

My 16.2hh tb hunted with 15 stone whipper in for years without any trouble

He retired last year to a hacking home at 26 years old.

Thanks I have the opportunity to ride one but Im paranoid about crushing the poor chap! I have been riding cobs and natives for so many years but would love the opportunity to ride something different. Not at the horse's expense though. His owner's weight varies between 9 and 10 stone.

my 15.3/16h Tb carries my 14 stone OH everyday without any problems at all. OH has learned to ride on him from the very start (horse was only 15.2 at that point) and its never caused him any issues. I do make sure though that he is worked correctly to keep his back strong, that his saddle fits and that he is checked every 3 months by a physio (although Physio always gives him a clean bill of health)...

Steeplechasers carry 12 stone over anything upto 4 miles at speed, TBs are hardier and can carry more weight than given credit for!

I agree TBs are a lot sturdier than people think. After all they are from arabs and native ponies both very strong. My TB is 16.1 and quite fine and he carrys me no problem and I weigh over 11 stone, I wouldn't want a heavy novice on him but he does fine with me, tack and back checked every year as well. Tiny jump and shocking jumping position I know!
