If anyone knows anything about the complicated french system I'd be really grateful! Not sure if it's my poor french skills, but my native french speaking BF can't figure it out either!
Myself and my two mares have recently moved to France, I've applied for their SIRE numbers etc etc and found the process fairly easy, but I am completely flummoxed by the process of getting my riders licence! I can't make head or tail of the FFE website, how do I do it?
I've found a place to have lessons to keep my skills up while my older horse is just hacking, and the younger girl is still being backed. My lessons are on a livery horse, and I've been told I need this rider licence as proof of my insurance. Also I'd like to compete my younger horse next year, so I think I have to have a rider licence to be able to take Galop 7 in order to compete.
But the FFE website says there are two types of licence, which would I need? Pratiquant or competition? Do they run (like everything else in France!) from September for a year? And how do I apply for them? Are there PDF forms or something? I can't find anything!

You need to get a licence pratiquant in the first place. This will give your civil insurance. To compete, you will need to print out a form to take to your doctor too sign, then your licence can be upgraded to a competition license.

You don't need Galop 7 to start competing, a Galop 5 will allow you to compete upto Club1 (95cm cm SJ/ eventing and approx Novice/Medium dressage) and prepatoire 1m SJ.

All competitions run through the FFE are "affiliated."

Your Club should be able to apply for your FFE License, or there are some Associations who do it.
As far as I am aware, Club competions run from September each year, so apply now after you have visited the Doctor, make sure you have Pour Sports Equestre, written on the Medical certificate, which you give to the Club,
Keep a copy of everything!
You will get a paper License at some stage from your Club, with your FFE number on it, I think you pay around 36 euros a year for that.
For Amatuer, last time I looked, you pay an extra 90 euros,(your entry fees willbe approx double).
You can do your own entries as an amateur, you need to open a Compte with your bank details.
Your right, its most confusing, but you will get there!
A year at Club level would be my suggestion, to get used to the system, which, by the way, I think is light years ahead of the uk and all its different governing bodies, good luck!

Thanks guys,
I've been completely flummoxed! I probably didn't understand what the monitrice told me...
I'm looking forwards to getting out and about with my youngster, so I'll get things in motion now!
