Has anyone used one of these?

I already use my phone to track my rides and my parents / friends can track me using Find My Friends (on my phone, iOS) but this looks like a good gadget for alerting people if you come off and as a bonus you can track your horse as it bolts off into the distance or track your horsebox / trailer if it's parked somewhere dodgy. If the little plug thing gets disconnected by accident, or you come off but are ok, your contacts get a further message saying there's no emergency just by plugging it back in.

Does anyone else use something like this?

No, but I'd definetly be interested! I ride at home alone a lot if the time and was knocked unconscious last year! They seem expensive though.

I thought that too: you can get an app on your phone like Horse Rider SOS, which sends an alert if you stop moving for a certain no. of minutes, but that's only good if you're somewhere with signal.

The bonus of this gadget is that you or someone else can track the unit using GPS, which is much better than phone signal. It's a similar price to the gps trackers you can get for dogs etc, with the extra falling-off-alert feature.

That's one of the features: you can attach it to your saddle / trailer and set up a 'geofence' which will alert you automatically if it leaves a specified area. You could probably attach it to the rug of a serial escape artist! :p

I would expect it to be waterproof / rugged. It's also marketed to cyclists & bikers.

The GPS function is separate to phone signal - sometimes no good in a very steep, deep valley but usually much better than phone signal. The text alert might not get thru but someone could track the GPS location if you'd been gone longer than expected.
If I do end up getting one, I'll report back :)
