I'm on box rest feeling really pathetic at the moment. There must be 1001 ways you can injure yourself around horses and I have to fracture my foot tripping over a fly mask that had fallen out of the wheelbarrow I was pushing! Cheer me up guys, what ridiculous way have you managed to hurt yourself? How can I spin the story to make it sound a little more impressive when people ask me how I hurt my foot?

Nearly broke my foot a few years ago. Was turning my horse out in trainers (dumb ass) and my OH was with me, on the other side of the electric fence. He took out a polo and my horse stretched forward to take it, but touched his nose to the electric fence instead. He shot back and landed square on my foot. The pain literally dropped me! The guys in A&E said that if it hadn’t been so muddy at the gateway I would have broken it for sure. I spent weeks in a tubi-grip, hobbling around like the idiot I was!

Technically only my pride was injured here but similar to Michen I came off when my horse caught a knee on a tiny rail when I was trying to be clever and jump it at an angle to avoid the boggy take-off/landing spots. It was the last jump at the last meet of the season and only 2 fields away from the trailer and, with no way of getting back on, I had to do the walk of shame covered in mud and getting cheers and roars of laughter from everyone else in the field ????

Broke some ribs pushing a wheel barrow up a plank into the muck trailer. Slipped forward landed on the end edge of the plank and emptied the full wheelbarrow over my head burying myself in the process.
Being unable to stop laughing is not good with broken ribs.

I broke my ankle when I slipped walking across the yard to fetch a halter when elderly Appaloosa, who knew the routine perfectly, refused to come out of the stable which she had just walked into to eat her breakfast. I had left the halter hanging over the gate because it wasn't needed!
I was still in my dressing gown and had just slipped my feet into a pair of sandals. I heard the bone break, managed to lever myself up on the gate to stand on one leg, Appaloosa strolled out of the stable to see what was taking so long/what all the fuss was about as i called for sister to rescue me. I managed to open the gate and Appaloosa went back to join her friends, completely ignoring me.

it must be a week for wheelbarrow related injuries...my two have been standing in during the afternoons as both good doers, by 5pm they are of course desperate to get back out. I was leading one of them out earlier this week and she suddenly did the horrible pony thing of yanking her head down and to the side, to snatch a cheeky mouthful of grass. I wasn't ready and it unbalanced me and I flew forwards and hit my head on the bucket of the wheelbarrow and my side on one of the handles. Now I've got a very pretty yellowy purple large bruise on face and on my stomach.

Broke my wrist while trying to rescue a pony who had slipped on some ice. In the process of scattering bedding underneath it for it to get a grip, I did a big comedy slip where my legs went in the air. Big laughs from everyone and we carried on. Pony rescued and all was well. 36 hours later and my nurse friend suggested I get my wrist checked as I was complaining about it being a bit sore. Broken scaphoid and took a chip off the end of my radius.

Sorry about your foot OP.

I too have punched myself in the face numerous times tightening the girth.

Worst injury was concussion having fallen off at a walk. Still am missing about 15 minutes of memory

Can I ask how you know it’s broken? Did you have an x ray? I accidentally stubbed my foot full force a few days ago on the corner of two walls, the pain was obscene. It feels mega bruised on the ball of the foot and the toe next to the big one aches like a git. I can weight bear, it’s just very uncomfortable. I’m reluctant to spend (yet more) time at A&E!

Also, how long for recovery and what treatment is needed?

I broke a metatarsal falling off the kitchen door-step I seem to remember a Rotter standing in the back of my clog having something to do with it:confused:. I thought at first that I had just bruised it and carried on as best I could. However I had to get someone to drive me to a meeting that I couldn't miss and then she took me to A&E, where it was x-rayed. I had to wear a boot for 6 weeks to keep it stable. I must admit that I drove short distances, after the first week or so.

technically not very horse related but it happened at work where we have horses but I happened to be in the house.
Was putting a bottle of gin (I know ?) in cupboard which involved me standing on the 2nd step of a very small step ladder

Lost my balance and started to fall backwards. put my left leg out thinking I'd just land and my knee gave way.

I'd actually broken my tibia plateau completely torn my cruciate and semi torn everything else including the cartilage

What an absolute fool I felt. And to cap it all the gin bottle fell on the floor and broke. Down a good bottle of gin to boot!

No one else around so I hopped to the car and took my self off to A&E. The minute I mentioned the bottle of gin I was trying to put away they all looked very cross and sent me home saying it was just bruised. Took two weeks before MRI revealed damage and I'd be walking around on it wandering why it kept collapsing. Nightmare!

I tell people I did it our skiing or falling off a particularly nasty horse!

After hobbling around on it for 6 days, it really wasn't getting any better, so yesterday I took myself off to my local walk-in centre where they had x-ray facilities. They said it's a complete fracture of my 5th metatarsal bone and I got a ticking off for not going sooner
Apparently, I should be in a special boot but the nurse said the ones they have at the walk in centre aren't very good, my sturdy trainers are probably giving enough support, and I will be given a proper one at my appointment at fracture clinic tomorrow. Until then, I am on crutches, not supposed to weight-bear at all and (what is really frustrating me) I can't drive. Not sure how long it will take to heal but broken bones are usually about 6 weeks. Hopefully I'll learn more tomorrow.
CT - I would go and get it checked out. I'm not sure what it's like elsewhere but I got seen straight away at the centre, one positive thing to come out of Covid is that people are finally only going to emergency units for valid reasons

Many years ago i was running to school in the snow, late as usual, i slipped and broke my wrist.Years later, i was running in the snow to catch a bus to work late again. I slipped and broke my other wrist. I have also broken my leg falling off when jumping at a horse show. He stumbled when landing from a jump and off I came. I am quite breakable.

I can walk, tho, it just feels very bruised. Shame all our floors downstairs are tiled, the carpet upstairs is much less ouchy. If there’s no treatment, I wonder if it’s worth being seen? If it doesn’t improve soon, I will go. It’s just quite a walk from the car park to the walk-in clinic!

I don’t want to be non weight bearing, I’m in charge of dogs and horse! I can drive, it’s my left foot and I have an automatic.

I was the same, it was the thought of not driving that put me off going for so long but if you've got an automatic, you should be fine. The thing that pushed me to go is that some of these injuries may need surgery and I didn't still want to be hobbling around at Christmas. Now is a good time to go, while it's quiet. Good luck whatever you decide

One winter horses had been in all day due to snow and ice. Decided to give my girl a leg stretch around the school, rather than just walk decided I’d have a sit on. She had her rug on and head collar, tied lead rope into ‘reins’. Asked friend to hold her and plan was to vault on from a an old plastic chair - so intent on reliving my youth forgot I’d not vaulted on for years (at least 20), jumped up, landed back on chair which shattered and ended up rolling around under tb‘s belly who literally just turned her head and looked at me. Friend at the time thought it hilarious.Bit bruised but no worse for my nonsense.

Same TB walking out of stable, she stood on side of my boot by accident, I went down like sack of spuds in front of her, bounced head off concrete as she stepped over me! Miss that horse so so much, absolute horse of a lifetime.

Other was a ‘fall’ getting off a horse who was much smaller than I was used to, so jumped off, ground came up a lot quicker than I anticipated and for some reason this made me fall. Rolled around on the floor, like a beetle, whilst horse calmly walked back to stable. Audience at the time thought this hilarious!
I realise sharing these makes me sound like a complete fool, but all incidents still make me smile when I think of them! I’ve been around horses most of my life and generally quite sensible.

A couple of weeks ago I was getting off my pony and as I was creakily sliding down something behind him took his attention and he moved towards me. Instead of landing on the ground I landed on top of a bank, lost my balance, fell backwards and rolled down the bank which was lushly covered in nettles and thistles ending up upside down wedged against the fence at the bottom. I was only in a T shirt and was covered in nettle stings and I'm still finding bits of thistle in my skin. I'm not safe to be let out.

I was so hung over once (in my younger days) that I fell off from walk on a country lane and landed in a ditch on my back.
And yes some farm workers saw it and were dying laughing at me. The horse spooked at a cow behind the hedge, I could barely sit up I felt so rough and I just collapsed out of the saddle into a ditch. ??

Ah where do I start! Mainly non-horsey though.

Gave myself a black eye by answering the phone too enthusiastically and missing my ear.

Fell down the stairs twice and up the stairs once before my husband confiscated my silky cashmere socks.

Fell off a horse because I was laughing so much that it spooked her.

Fell off a horse attempting to rope a life size fake plastic cow.

And then a few weeks ago, I dropped a heavy steel bucket filled with water on my shin. It hurt like I cannot describe so I hopped around madly swearing, ripped off my trousers to see if it had gone through the skin, and turned around, in my knickers, to find that the postman had witnessed the entire episode.

And on your question re a rebrand of your situation; clearly, you were injured by farm machinery in the course of issuing protective masks.

Ok this may be hard to explain, but, I was sat on my horse bareback, flopped forward over his shoulder horse's 'playing dead' whilst messing about in the field with my friend. (I am 30 years of age, not 8, surprisingly). He decided he didn't like this very much (fun sponge) and bucked and flung his head down. I did a sort of handstand/somersault with all my weight on my wrists. Sprained both of them. Couldn't do much for weeks!! I was terrified going to the doctors as I had just moved in with my boyfriend and had visions of two casts and him having to, ahem, 'clean me up'.
