I too missed my share ride this week. But my choice. It was raining very hard at the time, sheeting down. The school was puddles and water logged. And hacking the obligatory circuit which takes over an hour woiuld have drenched us both. So yes, I just petted her in her box and said Goodbye
For regular weekly riders, missing one ride is not the end of the world. If we go on holiday, I miss a ride. And owners too miss rides from time to time.

I am a great fan of sharing. Sharers can hack alone, which I find much safer than riding with others. One rides the same horse every week and in my case over many years, so sharing replicates owning but without the responsibilities of needing to exercise or look after the horse one rides. But I doubt if I would drive a 60 miles trip to share, unless the horse in question was a very special one, like a dressage warm blood.
Can you not find a horse to ride or share nearer to your home?

I know how you feel as I can be the same if a ride is cancelled.

Could you see if there is anywhere locally to go on a guided hack? Might be short notice but you never know. Not the same as your share but still horsey/riding time to make you feel a bit better.

He is special and highly trained able to do most dressage moves up to medium at least. He’s also kind and forgiving of my average riding skills! I only hack but love his brain the hacking where he’s kept and the owner is a friend whose company I also enjoy very much. I could ride at a local trekking centre but it’s really not the same. I have lost count of the number of shares I’ve tried. Either the owner of the horse ending up unsuitable. It’s been a slog to find this lovely one.

I’m struggling as I find my weekly ride so uplifting. I do joke about pony prozac it really is to me. Been miserable all day! Trying to not be such a needy first world problem princess but it’s just hard when it’s the only thing I like. I need something else in my life!

I dont think you need something else, you just need more of the thing that makes you happy. Have you tried reaching out to some highland people about your boy? They are usually very good at finding places for them. He could maybe go out in one of the herds that do a sort of private conservation type thing. A fellow livery sent her mare to somewhere like that. She has a lovely life and the livery was then able to get another horse.

I have considered it but because of his injury don’t think it’s fair to put him on rough or hilly ground. Also I’d worry in case he was in pain. He’s not quite right at the moment. Physio is booked. Don’t think he’d get that on conservation grazing. If it was just behavioural I’d be more tempted.

Yes I get you. I've not ridden regularly for years my last ride was before Xmas 2020 on Bailey, then 15 times on Lari before retiring him and maybe 5 times on a friends till they sold her.

Luckily I can put my frustrations into my gym classes but it's incredibly boring without a horse to look after as well as ride.

Horses can be one he'll of a disappointing and disheartening life but when it's good it's great.

I’m in Clanfield Portsmouth area.
No real advice but I can sympathise, at one point I lived in a house share which I hated and relied on riding (other people’s horses) to get me out of the house and keep me sane! I think it makes it feel worse when you have no control over it. I know the owner forgot but could you ask her to give you as much notice as possible if it happens again? Then at least you could try to put other plans in place so it doesn’t seem so bad. Have you got a ride lined up for this next weekend?

Definitely agree with the above - I haven’t ridden for about a year (getting my own isn’t really an option due to money/time). At present I work with horses which is stopping the frustration/boredom but won’t be able to do it long term and can see myself being very bored once I’m back in an office and have no horse to go and see at the weekend!

Will the office job mean more money and you will be able to have a saving goal towards a horse then? Could you do part time weekends at the yard to keep your hand in?

I look foward so much to seeing my retired horse, it's great spending time with him.

It would be more money than working with horses but to be honest still not an amount where I’d be able to fund my own I don’t think. I never earned enough before then (had to take a break from office work due to stress and that was where working with horses came in!) I’d probably look for another share as I’ve done this before and it worked well. Good point about doing a weekend day at the yard though, that could be a good solution!
Having one special horse to go and see even without the riding is lovely!

Yes I’m riding on Sunday and yes have had the conversation about more notice please with regards to any other days. I’ve cancelled her on the 8th as house sitting for my son but got next two Sundays. Added depressing thought I’ll ache monday! Only miss one week and my body complains too!

So last night my ride on Sunday was cancelled. It’s only one week as the lady who owns him is away and forgot to tell me! I’m so sad! I rely on that boost so much. It’s shocked me a little how upset I am. Horse dependant! Just having a moan.
Awh that is annoying though. if its a one off its ok. are you allowed to go up and groom or anything

Is there a reason you can't ride him without his owner being there? He sounds very lovely so I can't imagine solo hacking would be an issue or, if it is, does his owner have a friend who could hack out with you? It seems a shame that her being away means you can't ride at all and it might help her too if you can do some jobs while you're there?
