Riding a horse with a pulled leg muscle

human leg - yes possibly -(only because you have the ability to know how much it hurts! - horses cant tell you this) but bear in mind your going to be VERY unbalanced - So some very light schooling or a medium hack. - dont push it!!! Muscles dont repair through exercise!

Horses - NO. You will never know how much it really is damaged - and you could be doing a lot more damage. just wait! if you have to - for a stabled horse - walk in hand or loose school to stretch, at least the horse can have 'some' control over speed and workload.

I would if it's not serious.....few painkillers, sorted!

Being sensible, I'd say 'No, it will do more damage....' but I'm not sensible and carry on working regardless!

Hello!

I wouldnt think it would do too much problem. You dont want to put the pulled muscle through any extreme exertion, but you need to keep the leg mobilised to help healing.

Make sure you stretch the leg and warm up before and warm down after, if you find that it effects your riding and if your horse spooks you wouldnt be able to grip on hang on your better off keeping to light yard duties.

Heat packs are good to help the healing process and you can pop one on if your sitting watching tv or sitting at the computer.

Hope this helps, Im a student physio and still in the early days of training!
