Very sadly our senior master had a horrible fall out hunting and has broken her hip, and faces the possibility of a hip replacement if they cannot get the break to heal.
Do you know of anyone who has gone back to riding after something like this - unfortunately she is well into her 60's so personally can't see it, but would like some positive vibes for her if nothing else....
Thanks

A lady I ride with has had both hips replaced. She has fairly recently bought a 5 YO cob

TBH it usually heals faster with more flexibility if they replace rather than repair/rest the hip. She should be ok to return to riding . The main challenge would be a table top cob and sometimes dismounting.

Hi i broke my hip in aug 2008. A young cob i was riding reared up and come over backwards in the road. The surgons at the hospital thought i would have to have a hip replacment but they tried a hip pin and a femeral plate first. I was in hospital for 3 and a half weeks and they told me it would be 6 months before i could walk again. But in Dec egsactly 4 months to the day of my axcident i got back on a horse and in Feb 09 (once i had got my pony fit) i started hunting again.
They called my break an unstable spiral fracture and no one expected it to heal.
I did have age (or should i say youth) on my side as i was only 25 at the time. THey did say if i had been 20 years older they would have just replaced the hip without a second thought.
I'm not as flexable as i was and find it a struggle to even mount my 12.3hh from the ground. My hip is also giving me trouble at the mo as it is so flippin cold and damp. It aches after a days hunting but i'm not gonna let it stop me doing the thing that i love.

Thanks for all your positivity as I know how gutted she is that this has happened, with horses and hunting being her life. Please keep up the good luck vibes....x

Laura so sorry to hear about your hip incident, but glad you're still riding!!
You should look into an ostenil injection for your hip, it's synthetic synovial joint fluid-ie a joint lubricant and may help with your hip aches in wintertime!
It was first developed for race horses in 1970's for knee joints! I don't do it and I'm not advertising just trying to help

Want any more info private message me.

As to the OP, I know people with hip replacements, broken backs, broken legs and broken arms that still ride-so tell your friend to stay positive. True being >60 may take longer to heal but she'll get there!!

Hugs to all, Ellie x
