Any of you horsey ladies had to have a hysterectomy? How long was it before you could get back into the saddle? I'm only 29 but looks like I'm going to need one within the next few months due to endometriosis from hell. The thing that worries me most is the prospect of not being able to ride for a few months as that will be my one salvation after going through such a horrible operation

Have no experience, but thoughts are with you.

I bet HRH Camilla/Duchess of Cornwall/whatever her title is wasn't out of the saddle long before she was on a horse again!!

Hi

I had a ceserian and apparently the effects are very similar.

I could ride on a walking hack again after 6 weeks although they certainly wouldn't recommend this, then over the next 6 weeks I gradually got accustomed to it and was fine by 12 weeks full schooling and jumping again.

Just do take it easy I went a bit gun ho after my first few times and god the pain was horrible for a few days afterwards.

But take it easy and shchedule your return to ridden work just like you would if the horse had been off and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Oh and do the excersises they give you in the hospital, they don't seem much use or fun but the do help and you'll get a better figure back if you do them.

Oh and I dismounted same as when I was pregnant right leg over the front of the saddle and slide/leap down with you bum/back towards the horse, no risk of catching your sore bits that way.

Ive not had one, but looked after my friends horse after she had hers. She was 45, so Im not sure if that makes a difference, I looked after her horse horse for 3 weeks after the op, after that she was able to do the morning shift & I used to just muck him out & ride; I think it was around 3 months before she was riding properlly again though! Sorry, not what you want to hear I imagine.

Have had a hysterectomy and a C-section, the recovery time was very similar, i found the snug apple catcher style underwear reduced any discomfort and kind of held everything in place and was back in the saddle after about 5 weeks

Sorry to hear that.
Csection and hysterectomy recovery times are very similar.
Your body will tell you how much to do but you will have a dramatic weakness in your stomach area for a while.

I had a csection

I had an op for a ectopic ( again a similar op) and was back riding 8 weeks after and I was competing at a local county show 12 weeks after!

HI.I had an enforced hysterectomy in March this year, due to (wait for it) unsalvageable endo / pcos / fibroids / some other disease I cant pronounce and I am only 31. I was told minimum of 12 weeks without riding. I was adamant after 3 weeks I would try to ride, my OH lifted me into the saddle and led me around the school like a beach donkey ride.
Although my head encouraged me to get on sooner than I should, I soon realised through pain and set backs that the surgeons know best and its not safe to do otherwise. see other post "who is your horse of a lifetime".Best of luck , pm me if you want any other advice.

I had a Hysterectomy 10 years ago...
Was told by my Gynae that I could ride immediately after my 6 week check up.. I did about an hour later!
Depends how you feel really.....

i had something similar but can't spell it and I was back on after 5 weeks but trusted my horse with my life, the getting off is the hardest bit, I figured once I could walk upright for more than an hour I was fit to ride, schooling wise I just built it up over a couple of weeks.
