Last Saturday my mare had an accident and pulled all the muscles in her hindquarters. She was pretty lame and has been on box rest since, well this morning she trotted up sound, I am over the moon and so relieved. So what sort of exercise would you suggest for a horse just off box rest? The vet suggested just 'taking it gently' as she's had a week off - I was thinking just hacking out at walk until the physio can see her which should be next week hopefully. The leg she injured, is the leg her spavin is worst in, so when she evades in the school it tends to be her trying to avoid using this leg properly. The physio treats her to keep this in check and I'm keen for it not to get any worse.

Thoughts? Does it really matter?

Shes not been in that long, if your concerned then your idea sounds fine to walk her out till shes got the all clear. She hasnt really been in long enough to have any significant muscle wastage etc

As you said really, gentle hacking out at a walk until your physio takes a look at her. I would avoid circles in the school and keep it simple. My mare is on box confinement due to her injury to her tendon and we are walking out, shes been in just over a year now though the last 7 months are due to her tendon.
