Hi
I am pregnant, due in July. Obviously everyone is differant but just wondering how long after giving birth naturally people were back out riding. I`d only be aiming to do half an hour schooling and short hacks cos obvioulsy would have a baby to look after and the pony is quite low maintenance anyway. Just wondering how long I need to look for a sharer/loaner for. Thanks

I got on two weeks after and had a normal delivery! However I only rode once as I found I didn't have time after looking after a baby and mucking out my two etc! Felt okay though, although was sore the first week so doubt I could've got on any sooner despite not needing stitches! A lot of people I know struggled with balance but I was okay, hence getting in my exracer who hadn't been worked in 5 months!! Good luck! Your body will tell you when the times right :)

hi, i had my daughter just before xmas 2011 and hacked out quietly after 1 week. it was a little uncomfortable tho, and i had 2 take a couple more weeks (i have a very fizzy, bouncy ponio!) to recover, but im now back riding properly now and baby is 6 weeks old.

i rode up until 7 months pregnant, and was still mucking out, lugging hay and straw until the day before i went into hospital. i understand not everyone can do that but i would say stay as active as u can without being uncomfortable.

everyone is different, and your body will tell u when u have done 2 much! if u need 2 talk it over further, pls feel free to pm me, i love chatting 2 expectant mums :D

2 1/2 weeks. Normal delivery but needed stitching up quite a bit Must say it wasn't ever so comfortable, but bearable if it meant i was getting fit again. Though i'm determined to say the least and wanted to get fit and hunting again asap. Was hunting with the bloodhounds again 6 weeks later. (Fast days lots of jumping.) Would have been sooner but for the snow. You'll be fine! x

Thanks. I was worried i was being a bit optimistic thinking i could bw back on within a month. Depends how things go i realise but fingers crossed. Still riding at the moment with no problems but will probably stop at 6 months.

I was back on after a week with all three of mine, only a short half hour hack but felt fine downstairs :D. I had easy deliveries and no stitches. I didn't find a problem with my balance either but I was only a happy hacker when the kids were small, didn't have the time for anything else!

Im due May 10th and still riding... I'll let you know lol

In an ideal world you'll pop that bubba out in 4 hours and be fitting into your size 8's after two weeks. I'm sure you'll have a straight forward delivery, mine was, plenty of stitches 'down there' and got back in the saddle, literally, after 6 weeks. But, your fitness and athleticism does take a bashing and every woman is different. Plus if baby doesn't sleep, you will be well and truly knackered! :D

Well I'm aiming to be back in the saddle a week after hopefully! That's the plan, but this being my first child - I have no idea how it'll go to be honest. I really really hope I dont have to have a C-section, or even any stitches 'down there'. The baby will hopefully just fall out after an hour of labour and I'll be back in the saddle a few days later, he he how dillusional am I!

My plan now is to keep riding until I can't any longer (am due June 7th so 5 months gone). I fully intend to compete at Burgie BE which is the end of July (so about 5 weeks if baby arrives on time). Ideally baby will come 2 weeks early as that'll give me a bit more time ;) I realise I may have to go a smaller class than usual (novice rather than the CIC*) and if all else fails and I'm not up to that, I've possibly got another horse I can take round the Intro there instead. I'll let you know if I succeed!

Well I will prob get some comments on this one:p:p:p:p Went into labour on my horse!! Had my daughter in 2.5 hrs, tried to get on about 3 days after, Bum hit the saddle and I was straight back off again!!!!! Back riding within a week though, got told off by the mid-wife though for doing too much, but hey-ho if you have horses they dont stop just because you have had a baby:D:D:D:D:D:p;)

I was riding after about 2 weeks, felt a little bruised down below and core strength was non existent so took it slowly. Since then I have only realy ridden 1 - 2 times per week as am too busy with work and a toddler - enough to keep me sane and give me a good horse fix.

I am now pregnant with number 3 (28 weeks), due at begining of May and probably wont ride any more now until after the 'event'. With my last I bumbled on until around 30 weeks. I carried on doing the horses every day until 42 weeks (I am part elephant I think), especialy once maternity leave kicked in beacuse I was so bored. I am much bigger, more tired and less mobile with this one. Good luck to all the other broodmares in HHO land
