My lad has been on 4 months box rest with controlled walking in hand due to PSD! Vets say I can continue increasing his walking under saddle! This has to be done on flat level ground so no arena! How does everyone else manage trying to 'quietly' hack out walking after such a long lay off! He can't be turned out till he's back in full work!

My horse is into month eleven of box rest and is doing a 30 minute ridden walk a day. The hand walking became too dangerous even with 2 of us.

I have found 7 x 10mg acp is enough to just keep him focused on the rider but still be safe enough himself (17.2h 700kg plus TB sporthorse). I found it crucial to give the acp 75 minutes before tacking up and to have the horse as relaxed and the yard peaceful as possible. If the horse is anticipating going out or the yard is busy the acp doesn't have the right effect. Never used sedalin tubes so not sure if they have same problems.

Once a routine is going he is sensible, but we have had so many stop/starts in the rehab process the whole thing has become a real problem.

Good luck with your rehab, stick knee boots on incase he trips but if the sedation level is right he shouldn't be too trippy and anyway better he trips than give you a 'trip' to A and E !

Thanks!! My thoughts exactly about A & E!! Like you said once he's in a routine I'm sure he will settle pretty quickly as he's the type of horse that doesn't like change!
