Probably isn't the safest thing to do but I have a mobile, my address is in my pocket and my horses address is on his saddle. I love hacking alone really early in a summers morning - it's beautiful and nothing can beat it!
I love hacking out but am not confident enough to go it alone.
I am actually looking for someone who would like some company. I live in North Wraxall,Wiltshire if anyone is interested.
i would love to hack out alone, but unfortunatly horse just isnt safe to. IF i could, i would choose it over company anytime (but i am a peoples person honest!)
I love hacking on my own. I stick my i-Pod on quietly in my left ear only and I can go for hours.
I'm ogingto get tags made up to go on the horses saddle and bridle with my address on it and a contact number just in case I get decked and horsie decides to bugger off home
i went out on my own for the first time last week and really enjoyed it. bit nervous at first and only went down the road but it went really well and gave me bags of confidence to go a little further next time.
I always take my phone and tell someone where I am going and what I'm going to do i.e. go for a paddle in the river or whatever.
When Dan's on his hols at my cousin's I love hacking out with the liveries though as its loads of fun having someone to ride with and Dan enjoys showing off with his buddies
I used to ride alone every morning as I kept my horse on a farm & we could go out for miles with no / very little roadwork.
We moved in 2005 to our own equestrian property which is on a road with a 60 mph limit & I have to go about 3/4 of a mile to get to a bridleway. No-one slows down here & they used to slow to a crawl where I used to hack out!
My horse also likes (I mean, liked - pts on Monday) a good spook / spin at nothing now & then just to keep me awake, so I stopped hacking out altogether unless I had someone with me on my old mare.
Also, there are lots of gates, most of them tricky, & we can't do gates!!
Now my v understanding o/h has acquired a mountain bike so always comes out when I go hacking, or we box to the next village to avoid roadwork. It works out really well - he can do the gates, or put the bike down & do some crisis mgmt if eg my tabard's come untied & is flapping, it's something for us to do together & he gets to sweat off some podge!! The horse would also take a lead off the bike as if it was another horse, so he was a lot more relaxed.
I never ride out on my own because my horse is to headstrong, i usually get my sister or cousin to walk beside us. That way if khan has a moment and i fall off theres 2 of us to chase him!
i used to ride alone lots, and always took my phone, when i was about 14 i used to hack a friends horse out bareback for hours, she was the best thing i have ever ridden, gates, stops with the slightest bit of unbalance from the rider, she really was a star!
I also love riding on my own, I maybe manage one ride a week with someone if I am lucky. If I didn't ride on my own I'd hardly get out which rather defeats the object. It is embarrassing though when you are singing at the top of your voice and someone comes round the corner .....
Like most others, I always take my phone. I also love the idea of putting some tags on saddle and bridle. What an excellent idea, I'm going to do that too. brilliant.
