Riding before a holiday - thoughts???

Hi all dont post too often on here but have an issue that I thought you may be able to advise on! My partner and me are going on our first holiday in a weeks time, yipee cant wait up until now we just havent been able to afford it! Anyway he said yesterday please dont ride next weekend/before we go on hols as I know what your like! Bit of context - I am really accident prone, fell over and took skin off my knee just walking the dog, in hospital 3 days last year after gettinng between my scrapping dogs and so had to miss a caravan trip we had planned, fell out of bed when we went for our only weekend away and head butted window and broke my nose - the list is endless lol. Now I hadnt given riding a thought, would have ridden right up to and including the day we go but now am paranoid - what do other people think/do before they go away? Am sure had read on here before others dont ride just before they go on holiday just in case??? Or should I just carry on as I was going to....

I can see why he's worried (-: you didn't mention falling off horses in your list of disasters though. I'd go ahead and ride but maybe don't try anything too adventurous. Have a great holiday .
 
Wouldn't have even crossed my mind not to ride in case I injured myself but I know where your OH is coming from. Many years ago, my OH fractured his wrist when fell off his bike (cycling to work - not mountain biking or anything exciting) the week before a water sports holiday.

Accidents can and do happen at anytime so depends on whether you feel that you are particularly more accident prone doing something with your horse than other stuff?

Chat it over with your OH more and make your decision but if you do ride and something happens, you will have to put with the "I told you sos...";) and get it referred to at every opportunity in the future!

Never given it a second thought. We went away a few weeks ago, daughter & I went on a 3hr hack the night before to lessen the withdrawal symptoms.
 
Thanks guys for your responses! Will probably ride in school, OH came out for hack with me this pm n horse was a complete "%@^! Napping, running backwards, rearing etc, had to get off to lead past and then couldnt get back on, so had to do small hack walking lol (this is a major issue I am working on).... Roll on the holiday!
 
A word of warning, a few years ago was going on a 3 week trip to brazil so a really special trip. Decided not to do the event I had entered the day before leaving in case I fell off and hurt myself. Instead went for a quick drink with friends ( only a couple honest) got out of taxi and fell over in my heels. Spent the holiday hobbling round, wishing I had gone eventing - would have been much safer!!
 
Depends. Are you going to be nervous about riding now that your oh has said that. If yes then don't ride because your horse might pick up on it and if you are anything like me you wouldn't want your oh to say I told you so lol.
 
I decided for once in my life to be sensible and not to ride over the few days I had my degree exams :)

I somehow ended up knocking myself out grooming the day before they started and couldn't see for several days. I had to do my exams at resit time :rolleyes: :D

It's up to you, like others have said you are more likely to hurt yourself doing something non-riding related, but a few days not riding won't hurt either.

I managed to have a fall out hunting and broke my ribs about a week before my sister's wedding and I look very strained and a bit pale in the photos!

My mother banned me from competiting before my wedding, but I wondered if I was going to make it anyway as I had burned my leg on a hot water bottle, of all things, and had a terrible burn wound on my leg which was very painful and not improving so I thought I would be in a wheelchair!

I decided not to take a horse for its first ever hunting this August as I had booked a riding holiday in September and didn't want to get bucked off and not be able to go on holiday.
