My new routine since the clocks changed of tacking up from the field and riding before work and clearing the field, filling up water etc. with a head torch after work is going well so far.
I have been doing the same hack since monday as i know i can get the timing exactly right but will be timing other routes at the weekends, we do have a school but don't want to just be in there all winter.

Was just wondering what time do you leave the yard/field if you hack in the mornings?

8.45 am as have to get changed and splash make up on etc. Manage 40 min max ride. Hubby often mucks out or poo picks. But he knows riding is my sanity and I need to ride before work if I can. I am pleased to hear you're also fitting a ride in during mornings, enjoy. x

This winter i have settled in the routine of:

6.45am - feed all 5 and muck out 2 whilst eating
7.00am - those who aren't being ridden are turned out and i do the rest of their beds and hay/water for eve
7.30am - on first horse who is hacked
8.15am - on second horse who is schooled (or if i'm only riding one they have a short hack and a school)
8.45am - turn out those who have been ridden
9.00am - home to work (work from home so no need to change/do make up/hair - much to OH annoyance!)

I ride the youngsters (4 & 5) one day and then the 6 year old the next so they are worked every other day and on the weekends they all do something both days, either competing/lessons or work at home hacking or schooling :)

Regardless of the time of year I have to leave for home by 7am in order to be off for work by 7.30am...so that limits my hacking on roads to March to August...sadly...other than that it is field work or longer rides at the weekend and nothing in the week.

Usually I would need to be at work for 8.30 and it took 20 mins to get there - so I rode at 6.30 for an hour, left yard at 7.45 home showered and left home at usually at 5 past 8 :)

I think i actually prefer riding in the mornings now, I get to the field at 7am, I leave the field at 7.10/7.15 for a 30min hack round the village, I will admit i go out with a slightly dirty horse :o
Get back untack, rug back on and put tack away in yard. Home by 8ish to get to work for 9, im lucky work is only average 15min away depending on traffic.
But i would like to go on different routes which means longer hacks.

I have recently moved a few hundred yards down the road from the yard so it's a lot easier for me this year! I rode my first morning ride on Tuesday :)

Up at 6.30-7.45, on the yard for 7.00 just after, on board by 7.20. I can go round the block in 40 mins, which is quite boring but I can go out the front or back gate to mix it up! back on the yard for 8.00 just after, back home for 8.20 quick breakfast then out the door for work at 8.45!

I am planning to lunge too but only have a field, and would really prefer to save the ground :(

Got up at 5:30, got to the yard at 6:15, tacked up by 6:30, school in the arena (wan't quite light but didn't need floodlights on) and then headed into one of the back fields for a change of scene, then back, washed off, rugged up, turned both out, hayed em up and morning feeds in the field and mucked out mares stable and swilled floor, hayed up for when they come in at 4.30and headed off to work for 8:20:D
The sun was too bright and low in our neck of the woods this morning for the roads, specially when everyone is rushing to work so didn't venture out.

This eve - arrive at yard at 5:35ish muck out other stable, bed down, evening feeds, hay up again, lunge mare, skip droppings, do feet, give them a 10 min groom each and back home, make tea,see to dog, go to bed :D

I'll see how long I can keep it up....won't be long!

i would love to ride in the morning but as i am normally at work by 7.30 am - having dropped sullen teen off on the way & my yard is a 30 mins drive each way and i have to look presentable when i get to work - i suspect that i would have to get up at about 4am:eek: - i like riding - but not that much:)

My routine will change again slightly when we bring ours in regarding mucking out, hy etc. but we are trying to keep out as long as possible this year.

I have decided im going to buy one of those light alarm clocks to help me get up in the mornings, definatly want to keep this up so i can hack more this winter :)

I get to the yard at 6.45, ride, turnout, muck out and then feed in the paddock - leaving for work at 8.30. My boss is never about so sit in stinky horse stuff all day!! :D

I am at the yard just before 7am on horse by 7.15am, untacked for 7.45am, one wheel barrow of muck out of field fed & home for 8.30am work for 8.45am well ish :p The only problem is that my boy isn't clipped yet so have to be careful not to do much fast work but should be done at the weekend.

I only changed my routine on tuesday, after trying lunge by headtorch on Monday night & gutted I couldn't hack out, loving it so far but how long will it stay light enough in the mornings!
