I just wanted to post a little update on the Riding Buddies facebook page.

Just under three months ago, someone was looking for another person to ride out with. It was a rainy (how unusual!) Monday afternoon in October, and I had a few spare minutes on my hands. So, I set up a facebook page to connect potential riding buddies. It started with people posting their locations on the page. This soon became unmanageable due to the number of posts, so I set up a map and everyone who has posted their location has a pin with a link through which they can be contacted.

Little did I realise how it would take off. We now have more than 730 followers, and almost 200 locations posted on the map.

I know that loads of these supporters are from HHO and I just wanted to post a heart felt 'Thank you'. So many people have found new friends to ride with, and this is only the beginning as heading into winter is hardly the time to be getting out and about.

If anyone else is interested, the link to the page is:

http://www.facebook.com/RidingBuddies

Please like, share and post on the page if you are interested in finding new people to ride out with. BUT please, if you do arrange to meet up with someone, then be sensible as you hopefully would any time you meet someone you only know through the internet. :)

Lastly a message to any potential button pushers: this isn't advertising as it isn't for financial gain, but just a facebook page set up for people to use to find others to hack with in their area.

I'm on it! Hooked up with my hacking buddy susiq77!
Pretty much do 3 weekends out of 4, it's been fab to have someone like minded to ride with.
Huge fan - thank you :)

Yep, I'm on it too, I haven't met any new Riding Buddies yet but already hack out with 5 in my local area (including zoon when she can borrow a horse, hacked with dancebaben and her mum today :) plus 3 others that I don't think are on HHO).

Looking forward to meeting new friends.

Fab idea :D

How about suggesting woof wear iride app on your fb page, you can track your ride, then anyone your friends with can see the route if you decide to share, may be a way of learning new rides. :)

Thanks everyone! I'll have a look at your idea Cider loving mare. :) It's a great one, but I just have to be careful about keeping it a no advertising page so I still feel happy promoting it on here. I'll see if I can do some sort of group on the app so we can share rides, or if there is anything else we can use. :)

Wow - up to 770 likes since I started this thread a couple of hours ago - thank you so much!!! :o

And a little message to those who are on the map, but have noone nearby yet.... your time will come - keep sharing the page with people you know and equine related facebook groups in your area and sooner or later there will be someone just down the road. Good luck!! :)
