Have got Area Dressage qualifiers in a month, and thinking of having a go at Freestyle to music.

Is it possible to just walk, trot and canter round playing various pieces of music to see what suits, then mash it all together, or do I need someone to video me in all paces, then come home and somehow download that and play music via the computer onto the piece?

My music downloading skills are minimal though I gather we have a CD copier program on this PC.

Have I left it too late?

It is easier if you video it and play music to find what fits, or send the video to a professional if you can afford it.

The other way if you are doing it as a one off is to buy a dressage to music CD and ride to it so you know which tracks are suitable for your horse then put a test together and cut the music to fit the test. You may need to make minor adjustments to the test so that you do the transitions at the right place, but if you can work the music program its probably the quickest way.

Don't forget you need to get the details of the music to BD so you have a license it takes a few days but they are quite fast at issuing them. You will find the details of what to do on the BD website.
