The new show season is now upon us at the Somewhereshire Riding Club, and amongst my many other organisational responsibilities, I have been asked to "manage" the event rosettes. It's the first show of the season on Sunday, and I am - quite literally - up to my knees in @$%^!£? rosettes!! They are the type made of copious quantities of satin ribbon, with long satin tails: we provide 1st to 6th place for 14 classes (you do the math!) and I am endeavouring to put them together insets of 6 x 14. They slither about, fall on the floor, the tails escape no matter how hard I try to contain them, the hook things on the back get caught on each other ....... I swear the B%^&y things are alive and are definitely having fun at my expense!!!!! I have abandoned them for now.

There MUST be an easier way to handle and manage these things other than just scrunching them up in individual plastic bags in sets of 6, which just causes them to get creased. If any of you wise lot have any suggestions as to how to easily manage these things whilst, at the same time, preserving my sanity, I will be very happy to hear any and every idea. Thank you.

I don't have any great insights but can offer sympathies! I avoided rosette responsibility when I was on an RC committee (I chose control of the bank account and computer to add up score sheets instead 🤣 ) but we used to do similar. Plastic wallet type bags with a paper backing are less slippy, split into either sets of 1-6 or 1st, 2nds etc. The trick is putting them in a box while they're still flat so they don't have the opportunity to bunch up. And alternate stacking with the heads/tails at either end so it doesn't get head heavy and they all slip back in one direction i.e. out of the nicely packaged backs you have just stacked. Can't you tell I'm well versed in this frustration...

I agree with bags with paper backs and clear fronts; lay them in flat and then put into a big box laying flat. Though the metal coat hanger idea sounds good if there's somewhere to hang them.

We used to run 30+ classes. I hated doing rosettes.

Lay them in boxes, 1-6 across the repeat as someone above says alternate top and bottom so they don't all slide.
Fruit boxes work well as do the plastic crates.
If multiple rings then a box per ring, and placed in a large plastic (bin/recycling) bag keeps the rain off and eady to lift/carry between rings /secretary tent

When I was involved with RC we used to get our rosettes already made up in sets in individual bags. The fun started when we had equals in a class and had to raid one of the sets for an extra rosette. This tended to happen in dressage, not generally an issue in showing. You were then left with a set with only 5 rosettes which was not much use. Then there was the problem of small classes with only four or five competitors so inevitably you'd be left with a pile of unused 6th place rosettes at the end of the day.
The important thing is always to carry a couple of spare sets just in case as there's nothing worse than seeing a competitors face when you don't have a rosette for them.

Sorry didn't answer your actual question, we just had a plastic box per ring with the sets in their bags laid one on top of each other.

I run an annual show with around 40 classes. I second those paper bags with a clear front and I fold the corner over and secure with a label which I mark up with the class number. I then put in storage boxes in class order.

Thank you for all the replies. I can see that this is not a new problem! The coat hanger idea is inspired - I'll try it. Meanwhile, I will see if I can get hold of some shallow boxes to see if the lie flat idea works. Someone has also suggested to me that I thread them onto pieces of cardboard in sets so they don't move about, so am looking at that idea. This is going to be going on all season, so I need a quick and simple solution. Thank you again.

The blue plastic mushroom crates are useful for rosette storing.
