Hi, Just wondered if anyone has any fund raising ideas for my local riding club. We've tried various things in the past including table top sales and race nights but just looking for some fresh ideas please. There has gotta be loads of things we just haven't thought of.
Thank you in advance for having a think on a friday afternoon

We did a sponsored sleep in a stable when we were younger. We did it in December to raise money for a local boy who had to go to America for some cancer treatment. Think we raised about £200. Not that much but every little helps and there were only 6 of us!

A dog show!! If you can get sponsorship for prizes and adverise it really well (schools, other riding clubs, riding schools..), it's a real money spinner. It's not that difficult to organise and if you have a good variety of classes, breeds and fun, it can be a huge success. Even get some jumps and have dog clear round jumping at a few quid a go! You can also sell refreshments on the day and have a raffle. This is what my riding club does and they make loads, but it's for charity so maybe you could offer to make a donation to a local animal welfare charity and people might be even more willing to support it?

A silent auction (getting people / business to donate prizes, maybe something like a riding lesson from an instructor, free hire of a school for an evening, see if your local saddlery will donate anything etc). Perhaps do a training demo, and add a couple of pounds on to the costs to raise some money (you could have this with a raffle, bake sale etc) You could also do a black tie event, but that depends on your membership - it was the staple of all the charities and clubs where I used to live in the UK, and we always had a blast!

I know one RC made quite a bit of money doing a 'photo only' horse show. Everyone submits photos for different classes and pay to enter with rosettes just like a normal show. You can have funny classes as well as the more serious beauty parades, like horse and owner most alike, horse doing the funniest things, all action photos etc. Why not post it on the forum and then all us H&H people can enter too!

Funnily enough that was an option we were discussing the other evening

So you think its a good idea? We talked about classes like muddiest horse, hairest horse, best action photo etc. Perhaps I should do a seperate post for suggestions of classes. How much do you think to charge per class? 50p? 75p?

Best money spinner there is lol That's why they are at every show!

We hold small fun shows with lots of novelty classes. They always make a profit.

I think you could charge £1 per entry for the photo show (after all you have to buy rosettes so want to make sure you make a profit)
