I am desperate to get out competing again. It's been a few years for one reason and another, but dressage and the odd bit of showing are what I love. Very happy to do local stuff, just anything really. The problem is that the only 'mount' I have available at the moment is my son's 13'3" arab cross.

If I joined a riding club/went to riding club dressage would I get laughed at? I happily school him and hack him, and he is beginning to start working through his back and swing along quite nicely in trot. Son is part boarding so doesn't have all that much time in term time, so I thought it would be fun to take Raffy out a couple of times. He's a smart pony, and I will plait and turn out properly just in case you think he is a Thelwell type! :)

I'm near Newbury and not currently a member of any of the clubs round here. Are there any that are a little more low key than some of the others? I don't want to get looked down on by professional looking types on their shiny warmbloods!

Also, if I signed up for clinics etc, do you think that would be ok?

Many thanks. :)

Try the Berks County Riding club. I've done a few comps with them and they're very nice and semi low key with events to suit everyone! Range of horses tbh! Their club also has a junior section, and the adults have all types of horses, ponies included! Hopefully I'll get round to joining them this year on my youngster :)

Thanks, that's really useful. I was looking at their website and they seem to do things through the winter as well. Maybe I'll see you there sometime! I'll be the one on the little bay roan. :)

Mum used to be in the Berks Downs Club - She made lots of friends., though she was on a big 16hh Cleveland and other horse things, she says there are plenty of ponies and adults.

We have now moved a bit further north and im a member of West Oxfordshire - (when i remember to renew my membership!)

Have fun! :)

Thanks, that's great, I'll have a look at their website as well. Just happy to meet people who enjoy being with their horses/ponies whether they are HOYS or happy hacks!

We have adults ride in our Riding Club unfortuinitaly we are essex area! so we cant comment on your local ones but most RC (we do) have a slightly higher fee for non members so you could go to a clinic and see if you like them before you join? You will find lots of great people and generally have a kaught at the events they are great fun.

good luck nad enjoy

Have you thought about doing a bit of Endurance as you have a Arab X

No one will ever look down on you and endurance people are great and friendly.

I live not far from Newbury, and I'm part of the Mid South Endurance group.

We run training / pleasure rides which are very friendly.

My own 13.2 New Forester excelled at the sport and no one ever looked down at me.
