^^ Those are their tack rules for it... It appears that you just wear your normal gear, and comply with those?

I haven't got my Rc rule book to hand but most of the RC rules are on the BHS website I think. I'm pretty sure rider can wear any 'normal' jumping attire. It used to be that you had to ride without a martingale but I think they changed the rules that now you can but get 5 penalty points. I'm fairly sure it's no spurs (or maybe thats the thing you can have but get penalties???) I'm only confusing things...I'll go & find rule book if I can.
I can remember the format though. You go in, salute the judge, have to show canter on each rein when judge has assessed your balance rhythm etc on flat, they ring bell & you jump the course (normally about 8 fences with one double). Each jump is marked out of 10 (scores like dressage test) when you finish you carry on cantering until they ring the bell again. They're looking for good balance rhythm etc on the approach to & away from each fence. You get penalties for knock downs/refusals. Marks also for your position & effectiveness. Highest score wins!

You'll be fine- if you go SJ before then, maybe ask if you can practise the cantering in circles thing. If not, just wing it- you'll look fine :D Wish my RC had held stuff like this, it'd have been so much fun!

I must've been typing as lolo did her tack list for you! If it's anything like down here, its not normally a very busy class as the 'simple' tack requirements rule out a lot of the usual local jump off speeed masters! So if you have a polite horse that's not necessarily a speed demon you have a good chance of doing well! Enjoy it & just try not to 'try' too hard as that always shows up as stiffness/tension in my experience. good luck

Go armed with a rule book- I did one last year alongside the normal SJ. It was very funny. They told me to take my spurs off and martingale off, and then I watched 3 people jump round with spurs and martingales on, checked with rule book at secretary's apparently this was allowed!- huge sigh of relief and quick tack change. Av went well to start, jumped round very nicely and then did the random cantery bit at the end untill the bell and halted square. Lots of faults in the class and Av was feeling soft and supple, for the first time in my life was quietly confident. Was therefore very amused when I saw that despite jumping all fences correctly (including the filler that had blown over during my round and hadnt been noticed) I had been eliminated for failiing to salute to the judge in my final halt! hahaha- note to self, check ALL the comp rules before taking part!

I think they recently changed the rules to allow spurs for the style as when I first took part they were definately not allowed (same for riding test). I always think of the tack thats allowed for dressage as thats *basically* whats allowed for the style jumping (for the bridle). Also don't forget to salute the judges at the beginning as I forgot that once catering around untill some one told me! lol Make sure to canter on both reins untill the bell goes to start and to keep cantering after the round untill the bell goes again. Good Luck! x

this was my attempt at style last year!

I think the judge wanted to see more of a lighter seat in the start as she commented that she liked what i did during the round but the start could be better - I spent most of the round out of the saddle so I guess that is what she meant!

Anyway she also had said she wanted to see more impulsion so a more collected jumping canter with them on their hocks.

it was an awful round but it was also his first ever show :D

I'm going tomorrow so see you there!

It is fundamentally based on American Equitation style classes. I have competed a good few non rc ones and judged a few of them for rc and at one show actually got the committee to agree to get rid of the snaffle restriction as the class was not a qualifier or championship and my basis was that if a rider was to be judged on their style on a horse not used to or not happy jumping in a snaffle then it put that rider at an unfair disadvantage. Anywho as above tack and make sure you are clean and tidy boots polished etc. It is about the complete picture and holding your form around the course with your signals to the horse being as close to invisible as possible. If you do have a rail or an issue stay calm...it is as much about how you solve the problem!!!

Thank you everyone, hmm my guy is still very green i only really entered so i wasnt just jumping one class, i think i will just try and forget that its judged!!

Articfox, i will look out for you tomorrow, not looking forward to the early start, my dressage is at 9am!! zzzzzzz!! :)

I did my first style jumping last year and didnt read the rules, I have a mad ISH and was rather worried about jumping in a snaffle and no martingale, although i did quite well and go placed 4th i think. you can wear a martingale but you get penalties added, no bling browbands etc, gloves and hairnet nice and smart for the rider. We had a tack check whilst warming up and the stewards were writing notes. Good luck its really good fun, something different :)
