Hi, new to the forum so don't know if this has been asked before! I don't ride, but I would like to get my son involved as he loves horses (almost as much as pigs!!). Does anyone know of schools in the Wiltshire area that take children from the age of 3?

I think your struggle to find anywhere that will give lessons or any sort of riding experience for a 3 year old. As the insurance premium is already sky high for most riding schools, and on a lot of policies children under the age of 4 are not covered on the insurance. If you read last weeks horse and hound there is a massive article on young children riding.

I think it's great that you want him to get involved though, and its great that he is keen!

Below is a link for somewhere just outside Bath, maybe once he is 4 you could take him for a half hour walk. They also have Frank's farm where they have goats, pigs and ponies you can go wander and have a look.

Thanks Jay89, ah yes, i know Wellow well, i used to go trekking there when i lived on the Bath side of Wiltshire and before i got too large to ride. Lovely setting. I have found one place where he could go riding now, but they only offer rides on a Wednesday (not good for a working mum!!). I think he would make a great eventer, he is completely fearless!!

Like suggested wellow you can hire a pony and take him for a walk along the cycle track not sure of costs anymore but its a great starting point and nice area as well with lots of little ponies for him to ride.
