Sorry - another hat thread. Tried searching for old threads and there's just too many.

Going to buy a new helmet at HOYS but it's been so long (probably much too long) since I bought one, I don't know what's good and what's not.

I don't want to spend more than £100 really but want something nice with air vents (sweaty head due to thick hair!). My current hat is a JTE one with a fixed peak but I see that skull caps are becoming more popular again now? Might be wrong. I don't do cross country or anything competitive, just fun rides/hacking/schooling/small jumps.

Any help/advice would be great. What do you have and is it good?

Another vote for the Charles Owen Ayr8 - I used to have the JTE, but couldn't find a local supplier when I needed to replace it. The Ayr8 was one of the few that fitted me.

I got a Casco Mistrall about 6 weeks ago and love it. It is not as traditional looking, but it is so light and cool. The adjustable dial is great too, ensuring it fits perfectly regardless of where my hair is! I jumped a friends wild horse and it didn't move an inch despite her acrobatics. I manage to get mine off amazon.de for 66Euro including postage, but think I was very lucky. They are about £85 in the UK I think. Also you can buy different coloured piping and change it yourself if you fancy a change

I have, I think, an Uvex Perfexxion - definitely Uvex but I'm not quite sure which model. It isn't remotely traditional-looking but was by far the most comfortable of all the hats I tried on. I love it to bits - really lightweight, and sometimes I'll even feel the wind in my hair as I'm riding, it's so well ventilated! It took me a while to get used to it, though, especially coming from a Champion skullcap. I felt as though I was barely wearing a hat at first.

Whatever fits the best, and of course one that you like as the second point. I have a Charles Owen childrens velvet for "best"and a JTE Equilite, cheap but quality, light, comfy, fits...and blue!!

I have a Harry Hall Legend, think I paid £57 for it. It's really comfortable to wear and looks smart. I'd definitely try a few on as different makes can be totally different shapes!

Have a look at the uvex range. I got one earlier this year for £100 . Brilliant air vents that can be open or closed. Very light weight. Flexible peak. Dial adjustable . And extremely comfy. Doesn't move at all . Best hat I ever bought.

You can sometimes pick up GPA's cheap on Ebay. I've got the GPA Xtreme which Ive had for a few years, love it - its really lightweight and cool, wear it daily at home. Otherwise, my competition hats are both Charles Owen - a Pro II for XC and I've just bought a Wellington Classic velvet for all other activities which is actually very cool as well as it has hidden vents.
