Riding hat standards

Hi All,

I'm probably being a nervous nellie here but my lovely mother just bought me a brand new Harry Hall hat. Its kitemarked as BSEN 1384, but would I be better off exhanging ti for something that is also up to the PAS standard? I don't compete and I never jump. Just wondering if I am worrying unnecessarily? Ta for the advice!

maybe this will give you some info. For general leisure riding on a well behaved horse I think any hat to a current standard should be ok so long as it fits well. However I'm not an expert.

Kitemarking is something separate to the BSEN standard.

To be kitemarked, the manufacturer has to allow / pass goods for batch testing and only when passed can that batch of hats be allowed to go for retail. This is in addition to their design/manufacture getting the BSEN standard. In a way it kind of like spot checking on the safety of all hats manufactured.

Don't know if this helps or and I'll stress this bit..... how correct it is, but when I did my hat fitting course, we were told that the PAS standard makes a hat approximately 15% safer....I didn't particuarly query that at the time, but looking at the requirements of it, I wouldn't be surprised...
