Riding hats… what’s better no peak or fixed peak?

After a nasty fall where I landed on my head and fractured my nose I am on the look out for a new hat. I thought skullcaps were better for saving your neck if you were to fall head first but ive now heard that a peak will actually save your face so I am confused what to replace with!

I think it’s still the case that you have to wear skullcaps for xc as they are deemed to be safer?? I may be wrong but that was always a rule back in the day. I wear one for xc and hunting, but a modern lightweight Uvenx peaked one for everything else. I’ve gone for MIPS tech in both my hats.

Anyway, I’m not sure there’s a definitive answer to which is safer, but I would think that if you fell really hard on your face, I don’t think a plastic peak would do much.
