I'm thinking of putting the 15 year old helmet into retirement and treating myself to a nice shiny new one, however it would appear riding hats have changed somewhat in the last 15 years. I rather fancy a ventilated job (I like the idea of less sweaty nonce) and don't like the ones that look like plastic bike helmets but beyond that I don't seem to know where to begin. Champion and Harry Hall both seem to do nice ones but one is £30 more than the other - is this just a brandname issue or is one genuinely better?

Any suggestions for a good buy, or ones to steer clear of would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks (looking forward to next trip to tack shop..!)
xx

I LOVE my champion ventair, it's comfy and you don't get a sweaty head

i'd say its just the name in my shop we sell more champion hats as they seem to be deemed more fashionable and the shape seems to fit better

My harry hall legend hats really good, comfetable and you can use it for most things. (btw congrats on the 15 year old hat

I love the Charles Owen Wellington, super smart and makes the head look nice unlike my old GR8 which made my head look huge. The best selling hat I import to Norway and retail from Charles Owen.

I bought a Champion Ventair yeaterday, after trying several. It was the best fit. It didn't actually look as good to me as a more 'traditional' shape (I was brought up on the old cork hats) but I decided that comfort and safety had to be paramount.

Thanks guys... I think it might be a case of finding a good tack shop and having a good ol' try on. Whee, I'm looking forward to that one....

I personally like JTE or Champion hats as they fit my head the best. I really don’t like Charles Owen. I agree, you have to just go and try on to see what fits your head shape best.
