Looking at the other riding holiday thread made me think to ask but I didn't want to hijack that thread.

A friend and I are thinking of going away on a riding weekend. She has her own horse, I don't. Does anyone know of a way for us to go and her take her horse? I can think of plenty of reasons why a trekking centre wouldn't allow you to take you own. Do we have any options? I suppose 70 years ago we could have hired one.

The only yard I know that might do it is the one I'm at, it's a riding school as well as a livery yard and also has holiday lets on site (quite pricey I think) so theoretically you could use one of the riding school ponies whilst your friend uses her own. But it would have to be in paid lessons/hacks as I don't think their insurance would let you hire one of the horses without an instructor being there at all times. And although they have the facilities to put up your friends horse I don't know whether they would. So far the holiday lets have only been used by people wanting a horsey holiday and just have lessons/hacks on riding school ponies.

There are lots of instructional type holidays where you and your friend could go her taking her own horse and you riding a riding school horse. I can think of many - pick your area! But if hacking is the main thing you want and esp if you want it just to be you and her (without guide/instructor) I don't know so many places in fact I know none that will allow you unguided on a mix of own and borrowed horses. i do know of a few 'trekking type' places which would do guided riding on a mix of own and hired horses but I don't know how good they are!
