Riding holidays ?

Hi !
I'm a french sixteen girl, and I need english informations ! ^^ Last year, I spent 1 month in a horse riding centre in Great Britain, to improve my english and also to have good times with horses. It was great and next summer, I want to come again. But I was a bit disappointed because I was with many bigginers and I did lot of easy things ... I know you don't have exam to validate your horse riding's level (not as in France :p), so I'll try to explain to you my level : I've been riding for 10 years, I jump 90cm-1m, I do eventing, dress a bit, can go outside and keep my horse steady ...
So, do you know, horse riding centres wich do horse riding holidays for that level ? It could be a bit less, but more than 40cm jumps please :p It must be with accomodation of course ^^ And it could be in Ireland or in Great britain ;)

For a 16 year old your English is very good :) I live France (Normandy) and most of the teenagers I have met here don't know much English at all! Do you have your Galop exams? - I did my Galop 7 last year and it was quite hard doing it all in French, my French is not brilliant!

They are in the south-west of England, in a VERY beautiful part of the country! They take unaccompanied teenagers, the holidays are a mixture of lessons and trail riding, and they can also give English lessons while you are there. The owners speak basic French which you may find helpful!

Yes, I have the "Galop 5" ;) If you has had the 7, you ride very well ! And I can imagine how it should be difficult to learn french terms for the galop 7 ^^

And otherwise where do you ride in England ?
 
Talland riding centre has excellent tuition if thats the sort of thing you are looking for.

Given the wide range available your best option is probably to do a search along the lines of 'riding holidays uk' and then phone some of the centres that come up based on what their websites say they offer and talk to them about what you are looking for.
 
Yes I have done that ;) I've written about 10 emails yesterday, but some riding school doesn't have a website, or I didn't find it, so I also ask here and on other forum ;)

No never been lucky enough to go but they have an excellent reputation. Supposed to have extremely well schooled horses and top level instructors.

I've posted on 4 forums and on only 2 I have had answers ! But 3 answers on the other and many more here ;)
 
I have been to warwick riding, I must have forgotten to post my reply as spent ages typing it out..

They are quite good with beginners, although there are loads of kids (8-16) mostly so you can learn but might not be a super experience if you are an adult ?

They are cheap, food was ok-ish, the dorms were ok-ish, if you were a horse mad child and didn't care about where you slept/what you ate. Janet is very nice though. I have heard bad things about the place in general (state of the horses) but can honestly say I didn't find it too bad and nothing was alarming, like most riding schools really.

Edit - I went just over 10 years ago so not sure what might have changed ? I did go and have a look around first before booking a holiday, Janet seemed fine with this.
 
I used to go on Warwick riding holidays about a decade ago (eek) as well and had a fantastic time. I thought Janet had a great attitude and got the balance between learning and having fun just right. I don't want to make her sound reckless, because she wasn't, but she'd do things that other riding schools were too 'health and safety' to do, trotting without stirrups lots of hacking and good times on the gallops and the cross country course. My riding isn't an advert for the place at all, but I'd be a lot worse if I hadn't had those summers there.

God, I got all nostalgic and long winded. She might not be advanced enough for you, but Janet is a tefol qualified English teacher, and I'm sure you would have a good time.

I know it's not been mentioned yet but kids are always looking for places to go on holiday. I used to work at Scottish Equestrian Hotel (also know as Scottish Equi Complex) that primarily did riding holidays for both kids and adults. I would say that yes the kids that came on holiday did by and large have a great time, but if I was a parent no way would I want my child going there. The owner of the place is all nice and charming to the parents and children but is all about money money money. I have no idea how they pass the regulations because the health and safety is terrible. Staff left with kids have no child protection qualifications and are expected to work rediculously long hours The holidays are expensive and badly organised. The yard manager is bitter and immature and basically just terrible at her job. I am not trying to discredit the place (well I am), I just dont want any more children being put in danger at this establishment.

I was a working pupil there and then worked there for a while (which in fairness was a while ago), however they always had an excellent selection of horses to learn on, brilliant facilities and in my time there there was many visitors from overseas either on courses or on holiday.

I appreciate they are a lot of money though :-S
