Hi

Just wondering if people could tell me the differences between these 2 classes? What type of horse should be entered in each? What clothing/tack should be used for each and what you are required to do in each?

I have a show coming up and would like to do one of these classes but not sure which one is best suited?

Thanks very much

As no one else has replied i'll have a go. A riding horse is generally very light framed i.e tb. Double bridle, show saddle to show off shoulder and plain numnah. I also think coloured browband to show off face. Obviously plaited. Quarter marks. As for you I think its shirt and tie, tweed/hacking jacket, dark velvet hat cover, gloves etc There will be some piccy's in horse and Hound i'm sure for these classes. Show hunter, I think the horses are more weighty, double bridle again but plain to suit horses head, same sort of saddle and numnah, I think your dress is the same as well, of course I stand to be corrected! In both classes you would normally all walk, trot and canter round the ring. Then individual show, not sure if RH gallop? Then depending on the type of show you are at you will be asked to untack and trot horse up. Tack up and again depending on show judge might ride. All back out in the ring and then you will be pulled in according to placings. This si probably a load of b@//O';s but good luck!!

Its actually quite difficult to do, a lightweight/ladies hunter is often very similar to a riding horse, what most people do is try either one a couple of times and see what feedback you get from the judges. Way of going is very different, the riding horse will be a little more 'dressage like' in its way of going than a hunter and will give a very smooth ride.
(Obviously just my opinion, which may count for zip!)
ETA tweed jacket for both, but Riding horses wear velvet browbands!

A riding horse should have less bone than a LW hunter, and more bone than a Hack.

It is for those horses that are too light of bone to be a LW hunter, and still too much bone to be a hack.

Simple :p
