Has anyone ridden in a dually? I used it as aheadcollor with soli but robin is having trouble with a wolf tooth removal. Vet said to try riding bitless so I wondered about trying the dually.
I have ridden my pony in one as do not yet have a bitless bridle - she goes fine in it, you just have to be careful to have soft hands because of the pressure on the nose
You can ride in them -but a side pull is softer if you don't have the experience. Dually's are absolutely great - but if you ride in them be 100% sure they are clean and fitted correctly so they release when they are supposed to. Otherwise get a basic rope side pull. They are about £8 from places like Kramer.
I've ridden in a few times when horse broke her bridle and was waiting for new one to arrive! If your horse is generally well behaved I don't see that it would be a problem. I don't have a lot of experience with other types of bitless though, was just using it as a stopgap as already had a dually.
I have a bitless bridle that has the same action as a dually. At present though I'm thinking a straight head collar (side pull) would actually probably be better as the stop action is pretty similar (dully doesn't really tighten to hug nose when pulled evenly on both reins, just against nose like any head collar would) and turning aids probably clearer if given on fixed ring rather than sliding nosepiece.
