Hi

Do you ride in a fly mask? I need something with UV protection, and I think my only option is to ride in an equilibrium mask.

Worried that he won't be able to see though!

You can get special fly masks for riding in. The mesh is very fine. Can't for the life of me remember who make them though. Some have ears, some don't.

Just make sure you get one that is made specifically for riding. Equilibrium do a good riding mask.
Don't ride out in one which is made for use in the field.
My horse had an accident in the field last year in a Rambo one (the one with thick plastic mesh, so it had poor visibility) and the vet agreed the mask may be why he galloped straight though a metal gate.

I've got a cheapy job that's got finer mesh than the usual field ones, yet is good enough to provide UV protection. The riding ones def wouldn't. I checked it was good to see through by looking through it myself first (it's just like wearing sunglasses), and we only hack in it (wouldn't jump). She has to have factor 50 suncream otherwise, and too many applications of that rubs off the fur around her eyes where she needs it.

I used to ride my old boy in a cashel UV mask when riding, he had ERU so had to have protection from the sun. We hacked and schooled in it but never jumped with it on and I fitted it over his bridle rather than under it. Never ever had a problem :)
