i looking for some advice please. After 30 years of knee problems, surgery and being told I will need a total knee replacement in the next few years, the hospital mobility centre has fitted me with a BodyMedic knee brace. It has a concealed metal strip and hinge either side and can fit over my breeches and was wondering does anyone else ride in a knee brace and if so, how does it affect your riding, stability and "feel".
It shouldnt mark my saddle as it is well covered and a bonus is its flesh coloured the same as beige breeches.
Looking for some words of encouragement that it will be ok.
Many thanks.

My daughter used a similar brace following an operation on her knee. Her main issue was the possible marking of the saddle so we made sure that it was well covered. I have asked her about it and she said that once she got used to the leg being held in position it was fine and she forgot it was there (until one day she jumped off in a hurry - ouch) In my opinion it gave her a better leg position - but what do I know I'm only her mother :). She wore it for competitions at both dressage and showjumping, she even did some cross country in it.

I think it is just a matter of getting used to it - when she has a twinge now and then she puts it back on for the extra stability.

Thank you so much for this Clannad 48 this really helps. I am going to ride him out in it tomorrow and see how we go. Hoping to hunt in it later on.

I am a disabled rider with joint instability and ride with these braces (metal brace with hinge) all the time, on both legs. Very easy to ride in and really helps stabilise your knee joints. A lot of RDA/PARA riders wear them. I do all sorts of riding in them, schooling, hacking, jumping etc. Did a two hour hack with several gallops with no problems and also did a small cross country course last week in them. I'm sure you will find them no problem to ride in, get very hot in summer, though! :)

Thank you Clannad48 and less than perfect, this has give me the confidene to go and try it out. Was getting worried I may have to give up as the knee is so unstable on the ground and riding without the brace at the moment my right leg simply falls out of the stirrup no matter how hard I try.
