Anyone suggest any riding in the New Forest, near Fordingbridge? Going away for 2 nights with OH and want to ride in the new forest (will have to be beginners!)
Burley Manor was taken over a few years ago and it's not a patch on what it used to be in my opinion
The rides have slowed down massively and many of the horses that used to be there (eg: the ex hunters) have been sold on to private homes and have been replaced by normal pony trekking types. The one hour ride involves about 10 minutes of road work (down the hotel drive and then a stoney residential road) before you get to the open forest to begin with and then you just walk with a few trots around the bottom of a hill and back up again before the 10 minutes road work back to the yard. The two hour rides are better and you get to go over to places such as Wilverley Plain (but you are no longer are allowed to go across it) however they do say you need to be an experienced rider to go on them.
Burley Villa do a lot of hacking though and are specialists at Western riding which might be fun if you wanted something a bit different?

For beginners I can totally recommend to western rides they do from Burley Villa. It's not that near to Fordingbridge, but they are really good for those that have not done much riding.
