Does anyone do this? In this hot weather we're having at the moment I get really hot riding in my jods, so I've been wearing my crop skinnies. I know this isn't really safe attire to wear in case of a fall. What does everyone else wear when it's so hot?

Definately not a good idea!

What do you think of these?

They are really comfy and keep you cool during the warmer summer days.

i quite happily ride in shorts all the time. even braved a bikini top tuesday cos it was red hot out hacking. dont get nipped at all, only little problem is it makes my calves sore where the horses sweaty sides are touching.

if im schooling, or riding something sharp then i just brave thin jods (beige caldene ones atm) and take them off when im done

why are shorts/cropped trousers considered dangerous?
Unless people are talking about the risk of bloody legs if you fall off and get dragged?

I ride out in summer with shorts and have had no issues.

i wouldnt do it in a saddle, but if im riding bareback (i do alot atm for some reason) i will pull my jods up to just below my knee and its fine aslong as i dont ride for long enough for horse to sweat much as it rubs my calfs :o

Yes I have but I ended up with blisters where something rubbed something else(on my legs, I just remember getting pinched, hence I suppose I now know why the knees on jods are reinforced! Plus my old plod did sometimes try to brush me against the odd post or tree!

I even wear long light sleeves for the same reasons even if it is hot!

Yep, once because i had Connie's saddle fitted when i had just got her, I wasnt expecting it back on that day and couldnt resist getting on - was only on for 10 minutes, didnt have any adverse effects!

Can you tell from the smile on my face how pleased i was - that saddle didnt last long - wasnt happy with the fit from day one to be honest!

Shorts, flip flops and bikini top all sound fine to me - damn sexy look with shades and a riding helmet :) I feel so sorry for the kids who HAVE to wear their BPs in this weather, but I know that it is just sensible.

I would add I have cages on my stirrups and often ride in sports sandals in the summer .

OH rode in shorts the other week but found the leathers kept nipping the hairs off his legs when he was trotting.

what about some primark leggings or something. they are thinner than jods and easier to pull up if you are hot....

Oh and does this mean for my lesson i HAVE to wear jods.. cos thats so not happening.

Oh primark leggings!! Never thought about that! They're cheap enough that even if they get ruined it doesn't matter :)
There are some horses I would ride out in shorts (or cropped trousers as shorts never make an appearance with me in GB!), and others that I wouldn't :)
