There has been alot of posts about riding in the dark with the dark nights. I would like some advice. I am lucky that I have my horse at home on our farm. I was wondering what everyone thought about riding in around the stackyard which is floodlit all around when I got back from work at around 6pm. The stackyard is on a fairly flat surface with a combination of hard standing and concrete. Do you think that I could walk around and possibly about a trot just so I can get out and ride him? It is fully enclosed and I would only do it if it was icy, frosty or bad weather.
Please let me know your thoughts.

Someone with her veteren at the riding school where I ride exercises on the yard. It is all hard standing, I believe that the firm level ground is better for his joints than a school surface (and the schools are almost always being used for lessons). Can't see that it would do any more harm than road work as long as you have space not to be doing tight turns all the time.
