Riding in the rain - a question...

Hello

I'm interested in what waterproof gear (coats/trousers/boots etc) you use for riding.

I'd love to hear what waterproof clothing you'd recommend and why you like that particular product?

Are there any additional features you would like added to you're favorite gear to make it better?

Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated - thanks

I just use my cheap and cheerful over trousers from millets and my oh fishing jacket. Its brilliant and very waterproof.

I have a cheap and cheerful pair of pull over waterproof trousers and a full length Shires rain coat .. which wasnt used much last year as I was such a fair weathered rider

This year I have a new horse who needs riding pretty much everyday so I need to get my buttt!! in gear and ride regardless of the weather He will most likely be hacking in a high viz exercise sheet for most of it!

Depends how cold it is. As skin is very waterproof, for summer rain, I ride in a t shirt. In freezing driving rain, I wear full chaps and a waterproof jacket, preferably one that covers the back of the saddle.

For hacking out in winter, I currently wear a Rockfish Rider's waterproof hi viz jacket or a workman's Hi Viz jacket. Really wish Musto would remake their lovely warm, yellow waterproof coat with a vent for riders at the back.

For light rain, I have a Mountain Horse lightweight waterproof which comes over my bum and partway down my thighs.

For autumn/not-too-cold winter rain I wear my fluorescent pink winter jacket and plain waterproof trousers that are two sizes too big to get extra movement.

For snow/very cold rain I wear a ski jacket and salopettes.

If I were a fair weather rider in NE Scotland I wouldn't ride very often... I ride in rain/snow/sleet/reasonable wind, only really ice/high wind/thunderstorms that stop me... I find that rain takes a bit of steeling yourself for, but once you're out in it if you're warm and dry then I actually quite like it!
