Thought i would start a thread to get people talking !

Ok so this weather is getting beyond a joke now ! How many of you still go out and ride in the pouring rain ? So you and the horse enjoy it ?

If not what other stable activities do you do ? Grooming ? Clicker training ?

Yip I still ride in the rain, might not enjoy it as much as the sun but if we go to a competition and its raining we still need to perform :)

I don't really enjoy riding in the rain. Mainly because I can only hack around my area and when the weather ie wet there arn't any places to go faster than a walk, I just sit there freezing and I know my horse would rather be tucked away in his shelter.
I tend to groom, teach him tricks, clean tack in the shelter with him, tidy and dust the stables, anything that I can do just to spend time with my horse :)

The only time I don't ride is in lightening.

I figure that comps over here are rarely cancelled due to bad weather, (only lightning cancels shows here, we don't get snow) so I may as well get my horses used to being worked in it... Hopefully giving me an edge if I ever need to compete in crappy weather as my horses won't be bothered by it. I would much rather kiss the dirt at home than at a comp :)

I just chuck on my Driza-bone and a quarter sheet, suck it up and be thankful my car has an awesome heater :)

Ride in rain or snow... Al has 4 to keep fit so needs to ride at least 3 a day. She wears waterproofs and they have waterproof rugs :D

Get a good set of waterproofs for you and a good quarter sheet for the hoss and just get out and do it. The horses don't seem to mind.

Rain isn't a problem, it's ice that I won't ride on.

In fairness, if coblet's going to get a day off, it's usually a rainy one. However, more than one means we do have to ride... and I rarely carry waterproofs. It's a case of throw a hoody on, and man up :)

It's only recently that I've been lucky enough to have the luxury of an indoor arena, and oh how I've been spoilt because of it! In the past I'd always ridden come rain or shine, but I hate the thought of having to ride in the rain now.

If I didn't ride in the rain, I wouldn't ride

Only exception is when the ground is saturated (so no working in the field) and the visibility terrible, and even then I try to get out to do straight line work on the byway.

Depends on visibility really - if it's ok then chuck on the hi vis, waterproofs and off we go or just work in the school if it's not good enough, but only on the flat (our school is tiny so jumps + poor visibility + wet going are not a good combo). Once we can work in the field we do a bit more.
