Riding in the rain - Yuk

Just had the very unpleasant experience of going for a 20 minute hack around the fields in the RAIN

My 36 year old was appalled, first time in 15 years we have even considered such a stupid thing Had to take him as the 23 year old would most likely have totally refused, she doesn't do mud.

The things we do for friends. My mate has just got a new 4 year old and needed to get him out and about. I think she has lost the plot as the last thing a youngster needs is my nutty old man as a role model

Just reminded me how lucky I am to have oldies, they dont need riding, we only bother when the weather is decent

I quite like riding in the rain once I'm going... Deano does not. He has a look he does that gives me the very strong impression he would roll his eyes if he were human. Then he gives a long suffering sigh and humours his crazy owner by trudging off. Got to love him. Unfortunately for him this is a frequent occurrence - weather is never blooming decent here

Try to avoid it, but if need be, put a coat on and you stop noticing it after a while. Spare change or jods is always useful afterwards

LOL mine did the sighs on the way out. Coming back it was jogging, prancing and snorting New baby just ignored the daft old devil

Good idea Unfortunately tonight I turned up in a pair of jeans, a fleece and no gloves. It never ever occurred to me that anyone would actually expect me to get on a horse in the rain

The worst is when you get caught in a heavy downpour mid way through your hack

Happened to me in the summer, was in just jods and a polo shirt! Rode past a village pub and there was a bloke stood smoking outside under a canopy... he grinned and said 'summer eh!'.
Lucky for him I was seeing the funny side of getting drenched!

Definitely +1 for having a spare change of clothes waiting for you. I always make sure I do. Even when it's sunny!

I found myself sitting in a puddle one evening in the summer when it was glorious sunshine as we set off. Literally half-way round the sky turned black and it started to drizzle about 15 mins from home the heavens opened at it was just as if someone had emptied a bucket over us. I too had just a t-shirt on and there was a puddle on the saddle within abut 30 secs.
RM, my ID used to hum when it was raining, I'm sure it was NOT a cheery sound, I could almost hear the words "I - don't - like - rain". My current horse turns her ears sideways and wears them like a hat when it's raining.

I love riding in the rain i find it really makes ben try hard. The worse the rain the better he is.

Usually don't mind as I have all manner of waterproofs however was having a lesson with my dressage instructor, wearing a white tshirt, last 5 mins was torrential, boy did he get a show with my 36G's bouncing around in a see through tshirt!

I got absolutely soaked earlier walking the ginger one, was beautiful sunshine when we left so he was rugless and I didn't have a jacket WHY does it ALWAYS start raining at the very furthest point of the ride/walk?

My horse grudgingly tolerates light to medium rain, but as soon as you get heavy rain or worse, that special Scottish rain-wind combo, she goes on strike.

I love riding in the rain waaay better than sweaty sticky hot days, bring on the autumn! Not keen when its freezing obviously, however I have someone managed to acquire a horse that has a real aversion to rain, was terrified of puddles, seems to be OK with those now, but gets very upset if those nasty raindrops get on him! Unfortunately this has happened twice at farrier visits which is never fun! He lives out 24/7 too so it's especially ridiculous.
