Ventured out in it for the first time today, but only because there was enough covering to make sure that we wouldn't slip on the ice on top of the roads (have to go on roads around here to get any where).
I had a lovely hack out in the sun - did grease feet up too.
wish I could, everything is up or down a hill and icy :-( my lot have been on retirement for the last month due to weather! My yard had still not cleared from first lot of snow before xmas then yesterday it started all over again and the menage has been frozen the whole time too and uneven so ive given up till spring lol ;-)
I would never ride in the snow other than in an arena. You never know what is underneath, including hard and rutted ground or ice. Compacted snow is also very slippery. It only takes one bird to come out of the hedge for a disaster.
Not worth the risk for an hour or so of pleasure for me. And if the horse is stuck in the stable because you feel its too risky for turnout then i cant see how riding is any better!
A horse is a heavy animal and falling on to a road or hard ground is enough to have to call the knacker wagon.
