Hi everyone! I'm not complaining about the sun but who is riding today? It's about 24 degrees here and very very warm and normally I would not ride but my friend is up this weekend from uni and we've arranged to ride so I'm not sure what to do! Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks! :)

Neither of mine are keen on this weather. They come in during the day as they are miserable in the field even with plenty of shade. I don't have to ride in it so I don't. Early morning is your best friend here, or if you are not a morning person then evening is the next best thing. :)

I'm riding either first thing in the morning before the sun comes up, or in the evening when it's cooler (lighter nights are fab!!) x

i think the sun is already too strong (for me anyway) and its getting stronger. if u really want to ride today, i would ride late afternoon or early evening, say 6pm. there is still plenty of light until 9pm...

I have been round the roads just now training my pony in harness so walking behind her, going out to hack soon. I do not mind the heat will just go in woods.

I cannot ride later as I work my yard and need to ride before doing liveries.

I rode out at 8pm last night and its the best time in the day tbh. Everyone else is watching the telly at home and its so peaceful, I feel like we are the only 2 creatures alive at times.

I rode out about 1700 yesterday and we got eaten alive by damn horse flies. We cut our hack short because he was so upset which made me upset :( Won't be doing that again that's for sure.

Will be changing routine slightly and hacking out early evening in the week and first thing in the morning at weekends whilst its warm and the horse flies are about. Poor guy looks like a pin cushion today

I rode this afternoon and it wasn't bad at all, but we were just doing walk work and we had plenty of shade from trees along the track so was ok really.

I have a lesson tomorrow at 11-12 and not looking forward to it much, poor pony.

I hacked out this morning at about 10.45 for 40 minutes and it was not too bad just walk and trot and tried to find a shady ride.

I ride during the day as the horses have to get use to competing in the heat.I have to cross a couple of fords so I take with me a sponge and I can then wash them down and allow them to have a drink.

When we get back to the yard they are hosed down and given another drink with Electrolytes. All my horses are taught to drink all the time especially out on a ride.

I hacked at 4 today but we only did half hour and he had a nice shower when he got back. Mostly walked and both horses were fine

I wish it were 24 and sunny! That's amazing weather... a bit too cold for the beach but if I had to ride in it, neither me nor my boys would be bothered by it :)

Take water with you, fly repellant and if possible ride earlier or later in the day :)

My friend, Myself and my son went for a hack on saturday and it was scorching hot...we had a nice ride and only walked...However we said we wouldnt do it again , as our horses were very sweaty and harrassed by the horse flies...at one stage my 8yr old son's pony just got down and rolled...Luckily my son got off in time! At end of day, it was a natural behaviour for Lulu to roll...they do it to cool down and get rid of the flies...BUT I will not allow it to become a habit !

We went out for a hack at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, started out hot'ish, by the time we got back (about 10), it was absolutely boiling and the horse-flies had just announced it was their feeding time :(

My poor loan mare gets absolutely eaten alive, and as my stables are both in the sun all day there's no point in putting the horses inside for any respite, as they'd just boil alive in there, so they're rugged up with plenty of fly-spray, and turned out. Luckily we are fairly high up here, away from the valley, and do catch the breeze when its about.

They can go under a nice shady tree if they want, but yesterday they were both out in the midday sun; daft things, their choice.

Have arranged to meet a friend after 6 tonight and go for a gentle hack. Wouldn't think about it during the day, another friend went to a show yesterday and had to come home because it was just too hot for everyone, horses & humans.

I've just got back from a hack. It was a bit cooler but still quite hot and my horse got quite sweaty. We also had our own personal swarm of horse flies following us the whole way.
At least there's not so many cars around :)
