Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good riding instructor in Failand, Bristol who could teach a 10 year old with a year's experience, without treating my horse like a riding school pony?

To give context - my horse is a few years away from me being too big for her for her age, but at the moment (touch wood) she has plenty of life in her and loves the hacking opportunities that Failand can offer.

A friend's daughter, who has been having riding lessons for just under a year now, has met my horse and adores her, and when I've taken them out on a lead rein they've got on famously. I would like to see if with some lessons the girl might in a few years be ready to give my horse some exercise once a week to keep her ticking over.

However, my horse is not a riding school pony. She's got the sweetest nature, has never kicked or bitten and hasn't got a malicious bone in her body, but she's not a machine and in her youth she was a prime dressage horse and was trained really well. As such, I don't really want someone teaching the little girl to ride her contrary to her training - she's not a kick on, pull on the reins horse at all - she has a very soft mouth in fact - and I would like to find an instructor who respects this and who can teach the girl this from the start.

So, with that long list of things to bear in mind, can anyone recommend anyone who could come to Failand for some lessons?! Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Holly

ps. I am fully aware that this may not work out/of the legal ramifications - this is why I am thinking well in advance and want to organise some lessons when I and the girl's parents are there to make sure everything is in order. I would never intentionally do anything to my horse that would harm her and if it looks like a bad idea - that just retiring her may be better - then that's what I'll do.
