Riding jackets/jumper recommendations

So, as the weather becomes more variable I’m thinking of getting a jacket/jumper thing to wear when riding . I only started riding last year, and was mainly in the indoors arena/just wore my dog walking coat If it rained.
However, I’m thinking I need to get something more practical because now i know I’m committed to riding long term compared to just trying it out I want something that’s going to last! but I have no idea where to start!
I’d like it to be zippy in case I get too hot and want to take it off, I also wouldn’t mind paying a bit extra if I know it’s going to last, so does anyone have suggestions/brands I should be looking for?
thanks

Brands I like are Kerrits (American, can buy from Comfy Horse Co) and Ariat (can get bargains in sale when new season stuff comes i ). Both are expensive but specifically designed for riding, lots of pockets And right length.
I also have an excellent short, but very warm and waterproof jacket from Sainsbury’s and a ski-brand I got from a charity shop.
Whatever you get make sure it has a two-way zip so you can undo the zip from the bottom up towards your waist which spreads the bottom of the coat so you can sit in saddle. Hope that makes sense?!

I'm on the hunt myself so can't recommend one myself but it was pointed out to me by someone else on here to have a hood that you can detach or roll away if you're going hacking. Where I ride it turns out there's a lot of low branches I could easily get caught on so glad I followed that piece of advice!

Also having just bought one that turns out to be totally non-breathable I'm making sure to invest in one which is breathable because so far I get more moist from sweat than I'd get from being rained on!

Thankyou Yes, I hadn’t thought about the double zip but that would make sense! I’ll check it out!

That’s a good idea, with the hood and breathable as well! I’ll see what I can find!

Have you looked at Musto? I've just posted on another thread about their Corsica jacket. It's brilliant. I ordered a ton of jackets and sent them all back but that one! The quality is great and it's warm, totally waterproof and breathable.

I find Shires very good, I can't remember the name of my favourite one, but it has a detachable hood and is really totally waterproof, warm but not too warm to ride in (which I find many of them are)
