Hi there, I have recently moved to Alvaston in Derby. Does anyone know of any good riding schools in the area that offer private lessons? I have not ridden for the past 2 years due to my horse being lame, follwed by me not being able to ride after having a car crash, but now I feel ready to start riding again, & would like to find a good instructor who will have patience with me? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Barleyfields is a really great riding school

I have ridden at Barleyfields, Hargate and Home Farm at Scropton. If you can only ride in the evenings over winter, Barleyfields is best. If you make it in daylight, Home Farm is best.

I'd recommend Barleyfields too, great horses and excellent instructors. They have an indoor and a floodlit outdoor, show jumping course, working hunter course and cross country course. There are privates, semi privates and groups.

You can also use their horses for any competitions that they have there which is brilliant experience.

Closer to where you live would be Elvaston Castle, but I've never ridden there.
