I am having trouble finding somewhere to teach my 5 yr old and her friend. They have outgrown my 'help' and would enjoy being in group more. I have found one riding school but there is a lot of shouting but not much teaching going on! any ideas? Thanks

Not sure how close you are to Iden near Rye but there is a great little riding school there called Iden Grove. They do have a website so it may be worth googling to see what you think.

There is a place in crowborough but i cant remember the name, or South farm stables in langton green, Anjie Whittington although I am not sure if you need your own horse for her, or Mandy Burr at crippenden stud may help. HTH

Albourne Equestrian Centre is really good - it takes a little while to get too - but I have been there before after I lost my confidence on my old old mare and they were great! Really good but then I just had a private lesson. They do a lot of PC camps etc and has indoor and outdoor school the ponies are fab!

If not - you could always try The Three Greys Riding School (I have previously been here before aswell but not as good as Albourne - and also my sister learnt to ride at chestnuts and they are really good aswell ..

Chestnuts or Albourne are the best.

Chestnuts and The three greys are in pyecombe - Albournes in albourne obv - but theres also Hamsey - which is in lewes - quite close to uckfield if im correct :S but they have a lot of good ponies - but then when I watched a lesson they had put a young girl on a massive 16hh grey (dont get me wrong as he was safe as chips or w.e) but I just felt that it didnt help the girl get the right position etc and plus they were cantering. But I do suggest a pony called "Grey Lady" and she was brilliant with the young girl I was with.

I hope you find somewhere! xx

I'm pretty sure Bird-in-eye still do lessons and they're in Uckfield just a bit past the hospital. Not sure of phone no. but could google it.

For a 5 year old I wouldn't worry too much that there doesn't seem to be much teaching going on, for children that age it's more about hours in the saddle and getting the feel of how the pony moves. I used to just play a lot of games when teaching the little ones; they develop a more natural seat when they are not actively 'trying'

There is a riding school at Newick just for children that I've heard good things about but don't know them there personally

The place in Newick is perfect for kids! My friend and younger brother spent summers having a fab time there. Its called Mitchelswood farm ?? or somethign similar

Newick is great for kids, I hear lots of positive things

I'm not sure if Birdineye is doing regular lessons anymore, but they do pony days quite alot and have a saturday pony club.

There is Ashdown forest training centre that has just started in nursery lane, near maresfield, no idea what they are like though.
