How many of you have regular riding lessons? do you find they help?? are they expensive if you get some one to come to you?

i have started to have problems with Blod and i dont know what to do i actually got off yesterday and lunged instead with confidence in tatters

For the last year i have had one a week, but just moved yards and dont think that she'll travel.
So thinking im going to have to have 1 0r 2 a month now :-(

I have a lesson most weeks but I'm very lucky as I bought my instuctors horse. She doesn't do much teaching now but still comes to my friend and I and only charges us £10 each.
I find it my lessons a big help - I get lots of useful advice about my riding and about how my horse is going. She leaves me with exercises to practice but they never seem to go as well when I'm on my own!

Are your problems with your horse recent? What is she doing? If confidence is your problem lesson would probably help, but if she's just started playing up, maybe she's trying to tell you something?

I *try* to have one on Berlin every two to three weeks, and one on a schoolmaster RS horse every two to three weeks. I always used to not bother with lessons, hence why I was a 'useless child sat on a pony pretending to steer' for so long! Since I've been having more regular lessons I have improved so much that I'm not actually just a passenger any more, and I can resolve issues now between myself schooling on my own, and having a few lessons.
Plus, I really enjoy lessons!

I have one lesson a week at the RS then 1 to 2 lessons per week on my own horse at the yard with YO. I enjoy lessons and as my mare isn't really safe for hacking out the school is the best place to be!

I have one a week as my horse has issues that require someone on the ground. I would recommend it if you have lost confidence as it is reassuring to have someone there. (I like to have someone there to call the ambulance!!!LOL)Plus they may be able to identify whether your horse is just evading you or if it has an underlying problem.

Also if you have an instructor present you do tend to ride more positively and you cant give up and go for a hack!!!!

Sorry to hear you're having some problems. If you're starting to lose confidence a couple of lessons could make all the difference. Do you know anyone local to you who would recommend their instructor? I'm lucky because my friend is an instructor, so she gives me a lesson occasionally. I'd have a couple of lessons every week I could afford it (I love being taught!) - we don't have a school so bit limited on that front.

i have a least one a week and if comp coming up more. I'm in local Rc with run alot of fab lessons with BHSI or FBHS instructors at cost price. So when I have comp coming up I can go and have posh lesson aswell...........

I'm coming to the opinion that some intructors take pee about cost of lessons ............... but that's my thing..

Thanks for all your answers.

i think blod is just taking the mick really, she wont trot at all now and just wants to canter every where, tried to hack her out last week and she spooked at a bag (which she never does) and pissed off with me. also tried it in the school yesterday at the jumps (they have been there for years and not been a problem before!) the only thing different is that there are new horses up the yard and its now very busy, not sure if thats something to do with it.

i think i might try a lesson it seems that a lot of you have a positive repsonse with them :-)

I have a lesson once a fortnight and it costs me £25, I am quite nervous and unsure of myself and my instructor really helps me and nags me in a nice way to try new things like going to a show! She will also get on George if I am struggling. I really look forward to my lessons, and I can also text/email my instructor between lessons if I am stuck.

I have started having regular (every fortnight on average) lessons with my local RC. It costs me £12 with no more than 4 in the class with a good instructor. That includes hire of a local indoor school.

I am a happy hacker and I think these lessons have really brought us on - though I think I'm still crap lol.

Our local instructor charges between £10-£15 for half an hour or more to come to you, but then she doesn't have to travel far.

i have tonnes of lessons - i love them!!

I normally have about 3 a month - and i try to go to a couple of clinics a month as well
