Hello,

I used to ride and gave up about 4-5 years ago after falling pregnant. I have never been the worlds best rider but felt comfortable and confident with horses. After much consideration and discussion with the OH, I decided to start back up again with a view to eventually owning my own horse. It was decided that the best way to prepare for that would be to part loan a horse and get lessons. Generally just get as much hands on experience as possible around people who better know what they're doing than I do.

To that end I have found a horse to part loan, his owner lives on site so is around. However I'm struggling to find a yard that offers lessons close to where I live. I don't mind travelling a little further than just down the road, but a lot of places I have found have weight limits for riders (I come in at about 13 stone at the moment at a last check).

So, does anybody know of a yard near Gateshead/Newcastle, I don't mind travelling up to 30-45 minutes for the right place, or even someone who maybe doesn't have a large school but who works freelance?

Have you thought about getting an instructor to come to you? It also means you will be able to have lessons on the horse you loan. Have a look on the BHS website they have a list of their qualified instructors and you can search by region.

Firtree at West Moor is good. I've been for jumping lessons when my horse was lame and a girl at our yard who had totally lost her confidence has been going and doing well now.
