Just wondering, are you allowed to ride horses on pavements? I'm sure someone told me you're not meant to but don't know if it's illegal or not. I mainly avoid riding mine on them but occassionally do if it's safer to move off the road for some reason.

It is illegal, yes and should be avoided wherever possible. I also occaisionally will move onto one for large lorries etc, so long as there are no pedestrians about

I have ended up on the pavement by mistake, as I have ended up in peoples gardens but avoid it where possable. Pretty sure its illegal...

As Bossanova. You shouldnt but when I lived in a built up area with lorries, buses etc I would ride on the pavement if there were no pedestrians. If horse pooped I always got off and kicked it into the road.

Thanks everyone, now I know!

I have to ride along a 50mph to get t the nearest bridleway and it has a really wide pavement seperated from the road by a verge. If anyone is walking I wait until the have passed then ride on the pavement. If Star left anything behind, I'd go back with a shovel later. I've been passed by the cycling policeman several times (he shouldn't be riding on there either!) and he thinks it's sensible in the circumstances.

as others have said... not supposed to really. If im taking my horse to the vets for vac, teeth etc i will hack him down to save on the £28 call out fee which is stupid when it is only a 3-4 min drive away. However there is a stretch of 60mph road. there is only pavement on one side, but i will ride on that on the way home (going with the flow of the traffic,) as its safer for everyone
