I am going to have to ride my boy out tomorrow on my own for the first time since the accident, and I am very apprehensive about it ! Rode out yesterday with friend and he was much better then previous ride . But I was going to leave it until later and only go out again on Wednesday with company , but I feel I should be able to go out on my own now or I may find it harder the longer I leave it..............! I am such a wuss.....!

What would you peeps do?

I'd go. But, I'd wear a body protector, use a breastplate, and put boots on ned all round (that could just be for the Dizzy one!).

I'd only plan on going about one hundred yards and back. I might even be tempted to ask someone to walk with me.

Hugs to you hunny.

I'd wait until I was 100% happy and confident in company before going out on my own with any horse. chances are you'll be a little tense ... And if he is too it could throw you back a lot. Wait and take it easy is my advice. Whatever you do, best of luck to the pair of you.

Get suited and booted so you have it in your head that you 'feel' safer, even if you feel like a wreck

and I agree with MrsM that I would only go half as far that I was happy with, because the hack back needs to be stress free as well

And hard as it might be....(and easier coming from someone who is not in your situation...) forget about the accident. If you can remember a time when you had a lovely hack, how your horse behaved etc etc.

Can you get someone to walk with you, and then gradually walk a bit behind?

Mrs. M,

I haven't got a body protector ATM but I am going to get one ASP. I will take your advice though and just go down the lane and cross the road and back hopefully all will be well, unfortunately don't have anyone to come with me tomorrow. I have a running martingale but not a breast plate! Thanks for your help xxxxxx

Don't push yourself, go somewhere you feel comfortable with, even if it's only up the road and back, that way you're more likely to end on a good note and gain confidence

Yup, definately just as far as you are comfortable; as JB says, you want the coming back to be comfortable as well.

When I first took Dizz out I was, um, scared

I'd decided to go a certain distance, but only went half of it - I thought that as we'd done so well to that point, I was happy to go back. I have a habit of pushing things just that bit too far!

Yeah! I keep thinking I am such a wimp and that I ought to be able to do it, this voice in my head tells me to "get on with it, or you are a failure"!

Oh yes, a neck strap is a good idea! just in case!

It is definitely a good idea only to go so far as I am happy with and turn back.

Thank you all for your advice and support, as always!
