any advice really. he's not done much at all for a month, but has been living out 24/7. he's not the sort to get silly after time off, however, if i take him into the country he gets v excited and wants to charge about. (makes no difference how fit or unfit he is!)

should i maybe jst mooch about the roads for a few rides first? or lunge or ride in the school?

Most definitely, I would lunge and do the roads first until he gets settled again personally

ive heard of at least one horse tying up after being ridden following a month off because of the weather... mine is also out 24/7 (with access to a stable) but the first time i rode, i just walked, with a little trot, for about 15 mins. i wasnt able to ride again for another 4 days so did similar again... a couple fo days later we had a 1/2 hour hack, mainly walk, little bit of trot and a canter, then the same but longer a few days later. Then we were back to normal hacking. I think anymore than a month off though and youd really have to put in more slow stuff to start with. mine has however still lost a lot of muscle tone in a month
