morning all!

just after some more advice please:)

had a lesson on new loan horse this morning and concluded I am riding very defensively (even tho he is a total saint) and really need to get my shoulders back and sit back on my seat bones. So...any helpful hints on how best to work towards this?!

Have already started with the no stirrups work to help deepen my seat

I have a rubbish position, even though I know how I should sit, I just tend to sit in an armchair position and slump sometimes, it's a habit.

Try remembering - Tits and teeth and 2 cups of tea ----->
shoulders back, chin up and hold you reins as if you are holding two cups of tea - sticking your little finger out is optional!

Im always mortified when my mum stands at the edge of the area mumbling "tits and teeth.. tits and teeth"! I find that tightening your bra straps makes me more aware of my shoulders and i can keep them back better.

I always used to ride with my shoulders too far forward, I used to ride with one hand behind my back if your horse is well behaved enough, it opens up your chest and makes your shoulders go back, and then when you bring your hand back to the rein just focus on not moving your shoulder from where you've moved it to.
And no stirrups is a fab way of deepening your seat and you realise to keep your balance you need your shoulders back.
I like the 4 T's suggestion too

Am going to try that one hand behind the back idea! Its fab! He is such a saint that he would just be a star and carry on going. And will sort out my other problem of trying to do too much and not making him work enough himself!
Thanks very much

it will come - it was only your second lesson! i have been told that you are a nice sympathetic rider so there! he aint the easiest ride as hes so downhill at times he can lean and pull you forwards. I too had months of no stirrup work on him as well. ooweeeee!!!!!
