dont know if this is a silly question but when i ride my lower leg goes forward, iv tryed shortening my styrups and moving leg behind the girth but its not comfy and they always go forward again? i think it may be the shape of my horse or the saddle as it wasnt as bad with other horses. has anyone expirenced this before?

I ride with my lower leg too far forward. It was recommended to me years ago whilst riding my first pacer. I must've naturally adopted the position from then on because I had a shock when I started riding lessons this year on a riding school horse. Worked on getting my legs back underneath me, only to be out hunting a few weeks back and have a friend on a pacer suggest I lean back and stick my feet forward to help the horse's balance whilst pacing.

Discussed this with another friend this week who has similar riding experience to me re pacers and she had the same issues when she started lessons again.

My instructor got my legs back in the 'correct' position by getting me to stand in the stirrups in trot and canter. Few lessons of that and it solved my problem.

thanks i will try that iv just been looking at pics with my old pony and my legs look perfect... i think imust of picked it up when i got my new horse as she is a lot bigger and a lot more forward going ( typical warmblood) i will try and practic some exercises
